We put in a lot of work over the past two years to ensure our hospitality and nightlife sectors could keep operating safely and profitably.

We shouldn’t forget that for a long time, WA was the only place where you could dance and have a drink at the same time in Australia.

While the current public health measures are necessary, we do recognise they have an impact on major events, nightclubs, venues, suppliers, artists and performers over what is one of the busiest times of the year.

Today I can announce that we will be providing an enhanced support package for affected businesses and operators, with applications to open early in the New Year.

It’s a generous multi-million-dollar package, recognising the impact of unrecoverable losses and the higher levels of trade for these businesses over the festive period.

I’m sure some will say that it won’t be enough, and I’m certain all of them would rather be trading as normal.

But the reality is by following the health advice, and the public doing the right thing, we stand the best chance of quickly resuming our unique WA way of life, and getting back on the dancefloor.
