You’ve probably seen this funny-looking fella around a bit more locally of late! 👀
He’s been doing quotes around the clock these last couple of days — sometimes with our 4-year-old daughter in tow! 😂❤️
When he’s not behind a chainsaw or the controls of an excavator, he’s behind the steering wheel, driving around to quotes, meeting customers and checking out the next job.
Andrew started his working career in forestry in the Huon Valley, Tasmania, before moving into operating machinery across civil construction and production mining.
According to Andrew, the biggest machine he’s operated was a 250-tonne excavator!
He’s also spent plenty of time behind the controls of:
D10 dozers, Graders, Loaders, Excavators, Wood chipper and, of course, a chainsaw or two!
Speaking of chainsaws… at one point in our lives Andrew told me he had EIGHT chainsaws.
I thought he was absolutely crazy! 😂😂
Looking back now… I probably should have known there was a reason! 🤦♀️😂
🪓 FUN FACT ABOUT ANDREW 🪓
Andrew has been a competitive woodchopper since he was just 15 years old in Tasmania.
He has represented Australia in the Australian U21 team twice, represented the Tasmanian U21 team once, and in one pretty cool full-circle moment, both me and Andrew were in the Tasmanian team together as adults and travelled to QLD (Tassie won the tri series)❤️🪓
His specialty is cross-cut sawing — both double-handed and the famous Jack & Jill, which he has competed in alongside me (Nev)
And while the cross-cut is definitely his expertise… he doesn’t go too badly with an axe either! 😂🪓
He’s competed at pretty much every Royal Show you could think of — with one exception… Perth! 👀
So perhaps that’s one box we still need to tick! 😂
With 7 years of arborist experience, Andrew has also spent plenty of time sky-high, having worked up to 21 metres in a bucket in the trees!
From 250-tonne excavators to 21 metres up a tree, from forestry to mining, and from competitive woodchopping to operating machinery, Andrew has certainly had a pretty interesting working life!
But when he’s not elbows deep in sawdust or swinging a digger, you’ll usually find him doing what we call our down time and peace. ❤️
🎣 Out on the boat with me fishing
🏖️ Hanging out with the kids at the beach
🏍️ Taking the motorbikes for a spin
👨👩👧👦 Just spending time together as a family
That’s our little bit of peace amongst the madness! ❤️
And just because Andrew can jump into a 250-tonne machine doesn’t mean he’s too good for the small jobs. He’s more than happy to get in and help wherever he’s needed, big or small, sometimes, the smallest jobs can have the biggest impact on people. ❤️
A job that might seem small to us could make a massive difference to someone else — and that’s something we really believe in at Roos Excavations.
So whether it’s a massive excavation, a big tree removal or something much smaller that you just need a hand with — give Andrew a call.
