Saw some great tech in action down at the Gatton Smart Farm field days last week.

Key takeaways:

- The applications for AI are growing rapidly
- Scalability is the key to return on investment in agtech
- Connectivity is still the most pressing issue
- Got some great ideas for our own Agtech Showcase in Bundy

How one company adapted existing technology to solve a common problem for growers of crops such as berries and grapes...

It can be a time-consuming task to manually inspect crops and gather data to make informed decisions about irrigation, pruning, harvesting, and fungicide/pesticide applications. For example, a human can only count 4-6 blueberry plants in a day.

Bitwise Agronomy's ‘GreenView’ system uses imagery collected from trusty Go-Pro cameras allowing the grower to 'count' around 2000 plants in an hour! What happens to the footage next though is where the magic happens. The video is processed through an Artificial Intelligence (AI) software system which analyses the crop and presents usable data back to the grower via an online interactive dashboard.

The Greenview system was originally developed for berry and grape crops. This trial conducted by the Hinkler AgTech Initiative tested the system on a crop of baby cucumbers in the Bundaberg region to see how effective it was with other small crops.

Check out the case study in the link below.

‘GreenView’ Crop Insight Technology Summary About the Technology Bitwise Agronomy’s ‘GreenView’ system uses imagery collected from Go-Pro cameras to produce maps showing fruit counts and ripeness stages in berries and other small crops. The system assists growers with managing crop variabi...

There is certainly a lot of talk about Artificial Intelligence but very few people are offering qualified advice when it comes to issues such as implementing AI, ownership of data, and regulation of generative AI.
These issues will be addressed at this special presentation by lawyer, Mark Metzeler, this Wednesday 30th August at The Generator, Bundaberg. This is a FREE event, however RSVP's are essential. Please follow the link to register.
Oh, and by the way, Mark will also be providing some reassuring evidence that we are not all about to be replaced by robots!

The world of AI and how it is being utilised is becoming increasingly complicated for everyone, including business owners. AI is not going away, so we must learn how to utilise it effectively. AI has the potential to enhance the operations and outputs of businesses in many industries, including agri...
