🚨 Scam Alert: Fake ASIC renewal notices are on the rise

We're seeing an increase in scam emails and letters that look like genuine ASIC renewal notices for companies and business names.

These notices are designed to look official, but they can result in unnecessary costs and even changes to your ASIC records if you're caught out.

Here's what to watch for:
- Scam notices often arrive before the genuine ASIC renewal notice.
- They may charge more than ASIC's standard fees and offer fake "early payment" discounts.
- Paying these notices could result in changes to your ASIC details, including your Registered Agent or contact address, without you realising.

How to protect your business:
- Know when your renewals are due.
- Business name renewals are sent by email only, approximately one month before renewal. ASIC does not issue paper renewal notices for business names.
- Annual Company Review documents are sent to your Registered Agent or, if you don't have one, to your Registered Office address—not your business address.
- ASIC never offers discounts for paying early.
- Keep your ASIC Key or Corporate Key secure at all times.

📢 Upcoming changes to Director ID reporting – are your details up to date?

From 1 July 2027, companies will be required to provide Director IDs to ASIC as part of certain company reporting processes, including annual company reviews and when notifying changes to director details.

While these requirements don't commence until next year, now is a good time to check that your Director ID information is up to date with the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS).

Taking a few minutes now to review your details can help avoid delays or issues when the new reporting requirements come into effect.

If you've changed your name, address or contact details since applying for your Director ID, you'll need to update these directly with the ABRS.

Three generations. One profession. A wonderful career milestone.

I am delighted to share that my colleague, Jes Wilkinson, was admitted as an Ulton Partner on Friday evening at our Annual Dinner.

Jes has been part of the Ulton team for almost 19 years. During that time, I have had the privilege of watching her grow from a paraplanner into a highly respected and exceptionally capable Financial Adviser.

Jes combines deep technical expertise with genuine care for her clients. She is admired by her colleagues, trusted by her clients and consistently demonstrates the professionalism, integrity and commitment that we value at Ulton.

Her appointment as a Partner is recognition of the significant contribution she has made to our clients, our people and our business over many years.

For me, there is also something particularly special about this milestone.

Early in my career, I was fortunate to be mentored by Ulton Partners Peter Sawyer, Daryl Corpe and Mark McLean. Their guidance shaped my professional development and my belief in creating opportunities for the next generation of leaders.

Peter, in particular, had a profound influence on my career. He hired me in 1999, championed Financial Planning at Ulton and was a strong advocate for creating opportunities for women to become leaders within the firm.

When I hired Jes in 2007, I hoped I could provide her with the same support and encouragement that had been provided to me.

Seeing Jes become a Partner is therefore particularly rewarding. It represents not only her own talent, hard work and dedication, but the continuation of a culture of mentoring, development and creating opportunities for the next generation.

I could not be happier for Jes and am very proud to welcome her to the Partner group.

Congratulations, Jes. I look forward to working alongside you as a fellow Partner for many years to come.
