If you agree that funding should not be pulled from trying to eradicate Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA) from Australia then please take 2 minutes to sign this petition. It is estimated that RIFA costs the United States 6.7 billion dollars every year in medical treatment, control efforts and damage to agricultural assets. Not to mention the affects on our way of life here in Australia. Your kids will have to play on your driveway because the grassed areas will be out of the question, no more picnics and sporting fields will have to be sprayed every week before they can be used, outdoor festivals and concerts will be either more expensive, to cover the cost of treatment, or simply not be able to be held. This is how it is in America. People get paid danger money in America if they have to work outside where RIFA are found. If you are not sure how you feel about this, may I suggest you do your own research. Please sign and share.

Decision day for fire ants is July 13. That's when Australia’s agriculture ministers will be meeting face-to-face for the first time since the COVID pandemic. Fire ants will be on the agenda.

This meeting needs to set the strategy on fire ants: we need a firm commitment to eradication and new funds. But some of our governments might try to avoid funding fire ant eradication until it's too late.

We can't let that happen, we need them to know Australia expects them to eradicate fire ants for good.
