Kellie has presented the CAPS program across the state of Queensland from CEO, senior executives and management, mid-level management and multidisciplinary teams from medical through to operational. She has further represented Queensland Health internationally at the IHI 22nd Annual National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care with a poster presentation, forming links with the USA, UK and Canada and delivered the CAPS presentation at the 14th Annual National Patient Safety Congress in Washington, USA. Nationally – Chair and presenter at 10th Anniversary Measuring & Reducing Avoidable Adverse Events Conference, Key Note speaker at the following: Diversional Therapy Association, Preoperative Nurses, ASMIRT (Radiography), PSA (Pharmaceutical). Born in Queensland in 1972 Kellie studied Business Management and Paralegal at Kelly College, Diploma of Training Assessment and Development at Next College and Mediation Training with Department of Justice, Crucial Conversations with Seven Seventeen. She has worked as a paralegal, workplace trainer, practice manager and financial controller. The wealth and diversity of her work experience was the catalyst for her founding and co-authoring the CAPS program with Dr Peter Lee, which reaches up to 3,800 each year. Kellie’s personal belief is that everyone – no matter what their background – must receive the best health care including treatment free from the excess burden of suffering brought about by human error and communication breakdown. Kellie’s work as a senior manger within the private health sector led her into the field of human factors; she came to Queensland Health with the clear intention of pursuing this field. Since coming to the public sector, Kellie has pushed forward leading edge training for Queensland Health staff. Kellie’s unique delivery style sees her in demand as the lead facilitator in the researched and published (BMJ Quality & Safety, Jan 12) Communication and Patient Safety (CAPS) program. She gives diverse audiences the required tools, techniques and strategies they need to connect and communicate in today’s health service industry.
