🌼 Djilba on Noongar Boodja 🌸

Djilba is putting on a show this year! 💛🌸❤️

Across Noongar Boodja, colour is beginning to return to Country, with wildflowers blossoming and brilliant yellows, creams, pinks and reds appearing throughout the bush.

Known as the growing season, Djilba is a time of change and renewal. The weather can shift from cold and wet to clear, warm and sunny, while each little burst of colour reminds us that Country is changing too.

These beautiful pops of colour were captured out on Country by the ALS team. 🌿

What colours are you noticing on Country this Djilba? 🌼

Last Wednesday, we had the pleasure of hosting a fantastic cohort of UWA Archaeology and Anthropology Honours students at our Whadjuk office in Fremantle.

It was a great opportunity to share what it's like working as a heritage consultant in Western Australia, with Bill, Nerilee and Carly speaking about their career journeys, industry experience, and perspectives on the future of the cultural heritage sector.

We also enjoyed discussing the unique opportunities and responsibilities that come with being a majority Noongar-owned and led consultancy, and how this shapes the way we work alongside clients, communities and Traditional Owners to achieve positive heritage and environmental outcomes on—and beyond—Noongar Boodjar.

A big thank you to the UWA Students for your thoughtful questions, enthusiasm and engagement. We wish you all the very best as you complete your Honours and look forward to seeing where your careers take you!

Thank you also to Archaeology at UWA for helping make opportunities like this possible and our legendary mates at Terra Rosa Consulting for your support of the day.

National Tree Day 26/7 | Boorna Wongi (Talking Trees) 🌿

To many, a tree is part of the landscape. To Noongar people, trees are living knowledge holders—witnesses to generations of stories, seasons, culture and connection to Country.

This Marri (Corymbia calophylla) reminds us that every mark, every texture and every scar tells a story. Like Country itself, trees hold memory, provide shelter, sustain life and continue to teach us if we take the time to slow down and listen.

On National Tree Day, we encourage everyone to look a little closer, care a little deeper, and remember that caring for Country begins with respecting the living things that have cared for us for thousands of generations.

🌿 Listen. Learn. Care for Country.

🎉 Please join us in wishing Chloe Christie a very Happy Birthday and celebrating her as part of the Aboriginal Land Services team! 🎉

Although Chloe only joined ALS a couple of months ago, it already feels like she's been here forever. She fitted into the team from day one, bringing a positive attitude, an incredible work ethic and a willingness to jump in wherever she's needed. She's been an absolute superstar, and we honestly couldn't imagine the office without her!

Chloe is a proud Banjima woman and our Central Services Officer, bringing extensive experience in Aboriginal heritage operations, stakeholder engagement, heritage logistics and field coordination across culturally significant landscapes throughout Western Australia. She has worked closely alongside Traditional Owners, heritage consultants, industry representatives and project teams, building strong relationships while supporting culturally respectful project outcomes. Her background also includes managing complex logistics, travel coordination, safety systems, emergency response planning and operational support across large and geographically diverse heritage programs.

We're so lucky to have you as part of the ALS family, Chloe. Thank you for everything you've already brought to the team—we can't wait to see what the future holds.

Happy Birthday, Chloe! 🥳🎂 We hope you have an amazing day celebrating—you deserve it!

Please join us in officially welcoming Rebecca Weller to the Aboriginal Land Services team! 🙌

Although Bec has only recently joined ALS, it already feels like she's been part of the team for years. Since day one, it's been all systems go (and a little bit of organised chaos!), and she has tackled every challenge with enthusiasm, professionalism and a can-do attitude. She's been an absolute gun, hitting the ground running, and we're so excited to have her as part of the team.

Bec joins ALS as a Heritage Consultant, bringing her extensive Anthropology experience in working with Aboriginal communities across Western Australia and the Northern Territory, supporting cultural heritage management, Native Title research and community consultation. Through her work, she has built deep and lasting relationships with Traditional Owners across the Central Tanami, Victoria River District and Western Desert regions, and is now working alongside communities across Noongar Country.

Bec has extensive experience facilitating respectful and FPIC-driven Traditional Owner consultations, documenting cultural knowledge appropriately, and ensuring cultural safety remains at the forefront of everything she does.

We're thrilled to have you on board, Bec, and can't wait to see what we'll achieve together.

Oh, and a very Happy (belated) Birthday to Bec for yesterday! 🥳🎂 We hope you had a wonderful day and look forward to celebrating many more milestones with you as part of the ALS family.

Better late than never! Happy Birthday Carly for last weekend! 🎈🎂🎉

We were so very proud to host Manea Senior College (Official Page)at our premises last week as they planned their upcoming Out on Country trip!

It was great to see the students coming together, sharing ideas, and connecting ahead of their on Country trip later this year.

This event is a testimony to the hard work of our very own Summer Bennell-Brinkworth over the last 4 years in developing local stakeholder relationships and supporting local student career pathways.

Looking forward to seeing their journey unfold!!
