ety. Each of our wines has a unique story to tell about the vineyard where it's from, the soil and microclimate that it grows in. This gives each of our wines, it's own personality. We make distinctive, single vineyard, single variety, single region wines that are a true expression of where they are from. THE WHICHER RIDGE STORY - The label on our small batch wine collection was inspired by a photo taken by Neil of our vineyard during winter.

The very large and old Marri (Corymbia calophylla) stands proudly in the top part of our vineyard in the cabernet sauvignon block.

The lightning bolt striking the ridge is symbolic of our ESP - Energy, Strength, and Power.

Energy - is the effort and dedication that has gone into developing and nuturing our vineyard over the past 22 years.

Strength + Power - represents our combined grape growing and winemaking skills gathered over our working lives in the wine industry, along with our shared and enduring passion for what we do and why we do it our way. 🫶

VIOGNIER - Pronounced as VEE-ON-YAY. It's a french grape variety.

It's not the easiest grape variety to grow and to make into wine, but all that doesn't matter when you have a sip.

It's packed full of flavours of apricot, peaches, marmalade, cumquats and pears, with a soft velvety mouthfeel.

WINE STYLES - A winemaker chooses to make a wine in a certain style. Different styles produce wines with different flavours and textures.

Oak barrels are not just a great back drop for photos of the winemaking team in the winery!

Barrels play an important role in a winemaking style used during fermentation and maturation which introduces tannins into the wine to improve wine structure and mouthfeel. Subtle flavours like roasted cashews, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, coffee and chocolate are also infused into the wine at the same time.

It's the barrel toasting process during the making of each barrel which creates these tannins and flavours.

Booking in to a Pick + Sip Experience with our winemaker is a great way to find out more about where wine flavours come from.

SHIRAZ - It's a variety that is super versatile and lends itself well to being made into very different wine styles.

We make 4 Whicher Ridge Wines

Sparkling Shiraz (Redtail) made in the traditionelle method, soft fruity and savoury ''syrah" style lifted by the addition of a little viognier in the blend (Odyssey Garden Shiraz), lightly oaked with malbec blended in to zhuzh up the flavours (Tapalinga Shiraz), and a style which has been partially fermented in, then matured in, oak barrels for an extended period of time (Long Road Shiraz).

We had a trip back into Cathy's winemaking past, opening a bottle of 1998 St Hallett Old Block Shiraz. The cork was a little sad but the wine was brilliant! 😍🍷
