One of the highlights of last week was spending time with the youth of Wandering talking about money.

I expected to spend most of the session explaining the basics, but what stood out were the thoughtful questions asked. It reminded me that young people are naturally curious about money, they just need someone willing to start the conversation.

Over the next three weeks, we're looking forward to helping these young people build practical money skills that will benefit them well into the future. One of the important topics we'll explore is understanding the true cost of big purchases like cars and homes. It's not just the purchase price - it's the ongoing costs like insurance, maintenance, rates and everyday expenses that also need to be factored in.

As parents and guardians, we don't need to have all the answers either. Simple conversations at home about saving, spending and making smart choices can have a lasting impact.

If we can teach children early that:
• Money is earned, not simply spent.
• Saving creates choices and opportunities.
• Debt should be understood before it's used.
• Mistakes with money are learning opportunities.
..then we're giving them skills they'll use for life.

Everyone starts their home-buying journey differently and there's no "right" way to do it.

Some people plan for years. Some people decide over a coffee that they're ready to start looking. Most people fall somewhere in between.

A little breathing room for homeowners today.

Today, the RBA decided to leave the cash rate unchanged at 4.35% after three consecutive rate increases.

Why the pause?
📉 The economy is starting to slow.
📈 Unemployment has edged up to around 4.5%.
💰 Inflation is still sitting above the RBA's target at 4.2%, but the Board wants more time to see how the previous three rate rises are flowing through the economy before making another move.

For many Australian households, that's a collective sigh of relief.

It means putting on hold the stress of wondering where the next few hundred dollars might come from in an already stretched household budget to cover another increase in mortgage repayments.

But the fight against inflation isn't over though and the RBA has made it clear that future rate rises haven't been ruled out. For now, they're taking a wait-and-see approach while they assess how the economy responds to the previous increases.

For now... we'll take the pause.

One thing I love about what I do is being able to help people wherever they are - whether that's down the road, regional WA or on the other side of the country.

So if someone has recommended me but you're nowhere near where I'm based, that's absolutely okay! These days, we can do everything online, over the phone or via video call.

What matters most isn't location. It's trust, communication and knowing your broker genuinely has your best interests at heart. Same advice, same support, just a lot more flexibility.

Rates, cost of living, headlines - it can feel constant, like you’re always having to keep up with it.
