🚨 QUEENSLAND SECURITY INDUSTRY — REALITY CHECK
The industry does not have a knowledge problem — it has a compliance problem.
There is increasing concern around unlawful structures, phoenixing behaviour, and deliberate compliance avoidance used to reduce tax obligations, lower insurance costs, avoid Award requirements, and submit artificially cheap quotes that undercut compliant operators.
This is not innovation - It is regulatory exposure for guards, clients, and the industry as a whole.
When all operators comply with the same regulatory requirements, those artificial cost advantages disappear. Pricing then reflects the true cost of compliant security services — creating a level playing field for businesses that operate lawfully.
🔐 SECURITY COMPLIANCE IS SIMPLE
Everything must match the company named on the Security Firm Licence.
Not similar.
Not related.
Not another entity.
👉 The same legal company name must hold the licence and the required compliances.
❗ UNDERSTAND THIS CLEARLY
A Security Firm Licence cannot be transferred to another company.
Directors may change, but the licence remains tied to the same legal company entity.
If the legal company name does not match the company named on the Security Firm Licence, the work is NOT compliant — regardless of what any director, manager, or supervisor tells you.
📋 THE LICENSED COMPANY MUST BE THE COMPANY:
✔ Employing the guards
✔ Paying the wages
✔ Holding the insurance
✔ Invoicing the clients
✔ Receiving the payments
If these functions sit under different entities, regulators treat the work as non-compliant or unlicensed security operations.
⚠️ GUARDS AND CLIENTS — VERIFY BEFORE YOU WORK
Before accepting or engaging security services:
✔ Confirm Security Firm Licence
✔ Request Public Liability Insurance
✔ Request WorkCover policy
✔ Request Labour Hire Licence
All documents should show the same legal company name.
If work is treated as unlicensed, this can result in:
• Employer penalties
• Employee penalties
• Client liability
“I didn’t know” is not a defence.
⚖️ FINAL NOTE
This reflects established regulatory requirements and practical compliance experience within the Queensland security sector.
Ignoring structural compliance does not change how regulators assess risk or enforce the law.
