After 155 years of teaching geology, Federation University is scrapping its geology courses in 2026, and the Albanese Labor government is silent. Australia’s geological expertise is being eroded while we face growing challenges in mining, resource management, and the energy transition. Cutting off the next generation of geoscientists isn’t progress, it’s ignorance.

Geoscience students are left feeling "in the dark" and "ripped off" as Federation University becomes the latest university to ditch its geology specialisation.
