Who says working on a Saturday can’t be fun? 😎

Today the ITEC Employment team had a fantastic day at the Cairns Maritime Careers Expo, connecting with job seekers, employers, industry representatives and our local community.

Days like today are a great reminder of why we have some of the best jobs around. 🧡

When you’re surrounded by good people, having a laugh, building relationships and helping people discover opportunities they may never have considered before… it really doesn’t feel like work.

We loved meeting everyone who stopped by the ITEC stand for a chat and hearing about the different career goals, pathways and opportunities across the maritime industry.

For us, it’s about more than apprenticeships and traineeships. It’s about being present in our communities, creating connections and helping people find a pathway towards a secure future.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in putting together today’s expo and to all the organisations who came along to showcase the incredible opportunities available within the maritime industry.

A huge congratulations to Lexi on being named a Finalist at the 2026 Queensland Training Awards in the Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year category!

To be recognised amongst Queensland’s outstanding trainees is an incredible achievement and one that reflects Lexi’s dedication, resilience and commitment throughout her journey.

At ITEC Employment , we are incredibly proud to have supported Lexi through the Citizens of the Reef Skilling Queenslanders for Work Program. Seeing participants achieve milestones like this is exactly why we do what we do.

This recognition is also a reminder of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared vision. Through strong partnerships with Citizens of the Reef, Major Training Group, employers and our local communities across Far North Queensland, we are creating pathways that lead to meaningful employment, personal growth and brighter futures.

🎉🌊 A huge congratulations to our incredible trainee, Lexi, on being nominated for the Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year Award at the Queensland Training Awards! 🏆💙

What an outstanding achievement and one that is so incredibly well deserved.

ITEC Employment had the privilege of supporting Lexi throughout her traineeship with Citizens of the Reef, where she completed her Certificate I in Workplace Skills with Major Training Group.

Over just 22 weeks, Lexi turned her passion for the Great Barrier Reef into meaningful action. From fabricating and deploying reef stars at Moore Reef, conducting Crown-of-Thorns Starfish surveys, educating international visitors about reef conservation, and creating educational social media content that reached more than 16,000 people, Lexi embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, professionalism and purpose.

At ITEC Employment, we believe every apprentice and trainee deserves the right support to succeed.

Walking alongside participants throughout their journey, celebrating milestones and helping them build rewarding careers is what we're passionate about.

Looking for a career that's hands-on, rewarding and offers long-term opportunities?

ITEC Employment is seeking Expressions of Interest for an exciting Telecommunications (Cabling) Technician Traineeship hosted with one of North Queensland's leading telecommunications companies with more than 20 years of industry experience.

Throughout this 2-year paid traineeship, you'll complete a Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology while learning alongside experienced technicians working on commercial and government projects across North and Far North Queensland.

💰 What's on offer?
✅ Full-time paid employment (Monday–Friday)
✅ Nationally recognised Certificate III qualification
✅ RDO system + overtime opportunities
✅ All training, travel, accommodation and meal costs covered
✅ Company uniforms and PPE supplied
✅ Basic tool kit provided (yours to keep after 6 months)
✅ Additional industry tickets including:
• Working at Heights
• First Aid & CPR
• Low Voltage Rescue
• Elevated Work Platform
✅ Mentoring and support throughout your traineeship

👷 We're looking for someone who:
✔ Is reliable and motivated
✔ Enjoys practical, hands-on work
✔ Is physically fit
✔ Has completed at least Year 10 English and Maths

Previous experience using hand and power tools or working in construction is highly regarded but not essential.

ITEC Employment is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for an exciting Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction & Maintenance) traineeship.

💰 What's on offer?
✅ Excellent above-award wages + potential overtime penalties
✅ Nationally recognised Certificate III qualification
✅ Ongoing mentoring and support throughout your traineeship
✅ Hands-on experience with a respected industry leader
✅ Travel and accommodation provided when working away
✅ Learn valuable skills in road construction, maintenance, safety, teamwork and operating in a real civil construction environment

This is a physically demanding, hands-on role working outdoors in all conditions, with rotating day and night shifts and a 10 days on / 4 days off roster when working away.

To be considered, you'll need:
✔️ Live in the Rockhampton region
✔️ Current driver's licence and reliable transport
✔️ Construction White Card (or be willing to obtain one before commencing)
✔️ Commitment to completing the Certificate III
