Today, workshop 1 for the LEAP Training Development Project was facilitated at the Nintiringanyi Cultural Training Centre. I had the honour of yarning to, and learning from the experiences of Eddie, Matt, and Justin who each provided insight to what the lived and living experience for our First Nations workforce looks like.

This is one of many yarns, if you missed out and want to have your say - reach out via messenger as I’d love to learn from you.

Hey you mob, I’ll be facilitating a face-to-face Content Advisory Group workshop for the LEAP Project this Thursday at Nintiringanyi, Cairns

This is 1 of 2 sessions, where we will also be offering an online workshop to ensure we capture voices from across the state.

This is a yarning-style session focused on shaping the First Nations arm of QuIVAA’s LEAP Training Packages, ensuring that Lived and Living Experience voices are not just included, but central to the design and delivery of this work.

This space is about listening, sharing, and building something that genuinely reflects the realities of First Nations LLE workers in the AOD sector.

Places are limited, and we’re looking to bring together a strong group of voices from across the sector.

👉🏽 if you or someone in your network would like to be part of this conversation, please reach out to register.
👉🏽 I’d also really appreciate you sharing this with your networks to help us get the right people in the room.

Let’s build this the right way - together.

What does it actually feel like to ask for help?

This resource was created to help services step into that question.

“Walking the System” is a guided role play and reflection activity that follows the journey of a family trying to access support - moving through multiple services, repeating their story, and navigating barriers along the way.

This tool creates space to:
✔ See the full experience from a family’s perspective
✔ Reflect on how our systems respond in moments of urgency
✔ Identify where things break down
✔ Strengthen more connected, compassionate responses

It’s not about blame - it’s about understanding, reflection, and doing better together.

Something I’ve seen over and over again…

For years, I’ve worked alongside community, services, and families to build capacity to respond to AOD use and accompanying mental health challenges.

But one thing has always been missing...

Not another framework.
Not another clinical plan.

Something practical. Something real. Something people can actually take home and use.

This Family Support Safety Plan was created for that exact reason.

It’s not a clinical tool. It’s a reflective, simple, and practical guide for the person supporting someone they care about.

A way to:
✔ Pause and reflect
✔ Understand what’s happening
✔ Know how to respond calmly
✔ Have a plan that actually suits them

Because supporting someone can feel overwhelming, and too often, people are left to figure it out on their own.

This is something tangible. Something meaningful. Something that meets people where they are.

Us.

I created this piece to represent us. As I wait to welcome my son into the world, I felt an overwhelming urge to create this image, to bring me into the now, and, to ground me.

I describe this as the ebbs and flows of energy around my family, the importance of protecting our peace, our solace and being intentional about what we allow in

The water in which we are surrounded by, the Great Barrier Reef, and the rhythm of the sea. A constant flow like life itself.

Then lastly, the land in which we live on, the intricacy of the beach, the mangroves, the mountains. Layered, elaborate, alive. Just like the life we are building.

This is more than art. It is a story. It is a connection. It is Us.

Something powerful is coming 🤍✨

I’ve been quietly working behind the scenes on a collaboration focused on strengthening the Lived and Living Experience workforce, and I’m excited to finally share a glimpse of what’s ahead.

This next chapter is grounded in a simple but often overlooked principle: listening first. Listening to the voices, experiences, and insights that are too often unheard, and using these to guide genuine co-design.

This work is about moving beyond ideas and into action.
Working alongside community and workforce to co-design person-centred resources and training that are practical, meaningful, and responsive to real-world needs.

At its core, this is about walking with mob who bring lived experience, ensuring what we create is not only culturally grounded, but usable, relevant, and impactful.

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “There has to be something out there that actually supports me in my role” - this is exactly what we’re building.

And we’re building it together.

Stay tuned - this is just the beginning.

Meet the founder behind Hawke Solutions - Tonya Fuschtei.

My work has always centred around strengthening the communities we work in, by supporting organisations to build the tools, knowledge and resources they need to do their work well.

Through Hawke Solutions, I partner with organisations to develop person-centred resources and cultural competency packages that are practical, relevant and grounded in community.

Alongside this, I’m passionate about storytelling — helping to capture and share the impact of their work through visual media and creative design.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief: when organisations are supported to grow their capability, the communities they serve, become stronger too. Because we, as First Nations professionals ARE also, the aunties, the uncles, the cousins, the sons and the daughters that are guiding our people outside of the 9-5 position description. So my goal, is to ensure that no matter who you are, or where you are, there is a tool to support you to keep your mob strong.

If you’re working on something that aligns with this space, I’d love to connect.

I’d also love to hear from others doing this work in community - what projects are you currently working on?
