Talk about a feel good Sunday morning feeling :) A past client, who would like to hire me for baby No. 2, wrote these words to me today via email.
"About 3 years ago you helped us with our sons sleep. He still today is a terrific sleeper. I still tell people that aside from maybe his parents and grandparents, you have had the greatest positive influence on his life"

Such a compliment!! Greatest job in the world!!!

Keep childs door open and make noise
For adults, we often need complete silence for us to be able to fall asleep. Many of us wear ear plugs so that we don’t hear the sounds of the house or our partners breathing. You would think that it would be the same for our sweet little ones BUT they actually prefer hearing the noises of the household. They feel comforted knowing that Mom and Dad are still near by and that they haven’t “been locked away and abandoned”. I know it’s nerve wracking, but trust your child that they can either sleep through noise or perhaps wake up but then go back to sleep on their own. With time and practice, they will.

Wednesdays Wisdom!
Is SIDS more common in babies who co-sleep?? The answer is YES it is! Up until recently, it was felt that as long as the parent did not consume alcohol or sedating medications that this was a safe practice. A recent study showed that even in the absence of these mitigating factors the incidence of SIDS was much higher in babies sleeping with their parents.

It is believed that if breastfeeding, your baby is likely to wake through the night for longer than if they are bottle-fed! In my experience with all the babies that I train this is not the case! A breastfed baby is just as capable of sleeping through the night as a bottle fed baby!!

I often have clients proclaim that their child hates their crib and that this is the root of all their sleep problems! This is almost never the case! They have no reason to hate their crib, they are more than likely protesting because they are struggling to fall asleep independently as oppose to being rocked, walked or fed to sleep!!

I often get asked by clients whether sleep training will scar their child emotionally?? My answer: This WILL NOT happen. Research has shown that children who sleep well, with limited bedtime problems and night-waking problems, are better adjusted and better behaved, and do better overall!!!

Thursdays Tip!!!

Is your toddler ready to drop their afternoon nap? If you are going to do this I would recommend doing it and not turning back. Don't allow naps some days but not others! It may take 6 weeks for your little one to fully adjust. During this period bring bedtime earlier so that your little one is not getting overtired before bed.
