Another successful Business After 5 wrapped up!

Thank you to Courtney Telega from Accru Hobart for giving us a point-by-point checklist of what business owners need to consider in preparation for the end of the financial year. For any BES members who couldn't attend and would like to go through the checklist, a copy of Courtney's slides will be up in the members' only section of our website soon.

We also enjoyed Alli Coombe from the City of Clarence's presentation about the benefits of sport and recreation to health and wellbeing, social participation, the economy and to business, and how businesses can get involved in supporting their local sporting clubs for mutual benefit. As Alli outlined, there is an important collaborative effort going on between several councils to assess the current and future sporting infrastructure needs throughout Greater Hobart.

Business After 5 kicked off for 2026 with a fantastic evening of connection, learning and conversation at the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania on Wednesday, 11 March.

A big thank you to our guest speakers, Petra Schnierer from Nurse Next Door Hobart East TAS and Maria Reid from Eden Cosmetic Therapies, for sharing their experiences with the Eastern Shore business community.

Petra spoke about her journey in healthcare and the vision behind launching Nurse Next Door Hobart East, highlighting the importance of compassion, community, and supporting people to remain living at home. She also shared that Nurse Next Door Hobart East has achieved its highest level of referrals through word of mouth, a testament to the trust built within the community.

Maria introduced the LEAN approach to business management, sharing practical strategies to improve workplace efficiency, strengthen team culture, and reduce wasted time and resources. She also spoke about the many hats business owners wear, when it can be beneficial to outsource, and how tools such as the 5S framework can help create more organised and efficient workplaces.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the first Business After 5 of the year and helped make the evening such a success. It was wonderful to see members and guests connecting and strengthening our local business community.
