Great presentation at Elite Business Network this morning! ☕✨

Today we had a fantastic presentation from Kirsty Dowell at Stellar Insurance Brokers, who walked us through the crucial details of business protection, including How Co-Insurance Works.

Here is the key breakdown she shared on how being underinsured can impact a claim:

✅ The Scenario: You own and occupy a building worth $2M, but to reduce your insurance premium, you decide to only insure it for $1M.
✅ The Event: A hailstorm tears through the suburb, leaving a damage bill of $120,000 for repairs to the roof, broken windows, and slashed awnings.
✅ The Assessment: During inspection, the assessor notes the building should have been insured for $2M, not the $1M nominated.
✅ The Outcome: The insurer assumes that because you only insured the building for 50% of its value, you are self-insuring the remaining 50%—meaning they will only pay 50% of the claim ($60,000)!

Understanding these details can save local business and property owners thousands down the line. Huge thanks to Kirsty for sharing such valuable insights with the group!

If you would like to get involved with a proactive local networking group, feel free to visit our website or get in touch through our page! We meet every Tuesday morning at 6:30 AM at Ralph & Co in Camp Hill, and we’d love to welcome you along to our next meeting.
