Terra Firma Industries

Terra Firma Industries Australia’s leading manufacturer and supplier of fibreglass composite lids and access covers.

For over 30 years Terra Firma have led the transition from heavy, traditional materials to create the composite materials solution category for smarter, safer and more sustainable pit lid, access cover and FRP grating solutions. Established in 1994, we saw the need for a better alternative to the heavy, and dangerous, concrete and metal lids in use. With our manufacturing base in Melbourne, Terra F

Short-term cost savings from steel or timber access structures often come at the expense of long-term performance. FRP solutions provide minimal maintenance, long service life, and reduced operational risk, resulting in superior whole-of-life ROI. Facility managers and contractors can lower total cost of ownership while improving OH&S compliance. Discover how FRP extends asset longevity: https://zurl.co/j3opt

Safe access beneath wharfs isn’t optional — it’s essential for maintenance teams working in harsh marine environments. moulded grating removes the usual pain points: corrosion, heavy lifting risks, and ongoing repair costs.

The ROI? A long-life, non-slip platform that reduces maintenance budgets and keeps teams safe year-round.

What happens when a composite solution reaches procurement after someone else has finished the engineering?

Structural requirements, fabrication methods and installation constraints can force changes to a design that should already be ready for site.

Terra Firma brings specialist composite engineering into the process earlier, supporting projects from initial concept through to Australian fabrication and delivery.

And the savings show: on a recent data centre project, our engineering and product design expertise reduced cable duct installation time by 82% compared with the conventional method.

Rail possession windows aren't flexible. Every hour is scheduled around round-the-clock crews, and any overrun means replacement transport stays in place longer than planned.

Composite pit covers, access solutions and FRP gratings can halve installation time compared to equivalent steel or concrete alternatives. Lighter components mean smaller crews, fewer lifts, and less time spent on tasks that eat into a fixed window.

For rail maintenance programs, that's the difference between finishing inside the possession and running over it.

Metal components near electrical and communication infrastructure introduces two risks at once: signal interference and conductivity.

Non-conductive and radio-transparent composite products can eliminate these issues. Using composite rebar, access covers, fencing, handrails, walkways and other products can eliminate these risks and improve remote monitoring and signal transmissions.

A fantastic day at Terra Firma this week, welcoming more than 40 council representatives through our doors for a facility tour, technical discussions, and a BBQ.

It was great to share how our composite infrastructure solutions are designed, engineered, and manufactured — and even better to hear the questions, challenges, and ideas being discussed across local government projects.

These conversations are invaluable. They help connect the people responsible for specifying, delivering, and maintaining infrastructure with the team behind the products.

A big thank you to MWA for helping bring the event together, and to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion.

Aquaculture is one of Australia's fastest-growing primary industries, and its infrastructure needs are shifting. Sea cage and floating farm operations rely on walkways, access platforms and decking that can handle constant saltwater exposure, wave motion and heavy foot traffic during feeding and maintenance runs.

Composite materials are well suited to this environment — corrosion resistant, non-conductive around powered equipment, and light enough for floating or semi-submerged structures.

It's an application area worth watching as the sector continues to expand.

Wet or high-traffic stairs, walkways and platforms carry an ongoing slip risk — one that surface coatings only solve for a while before they wear off.

FRP anti-slip products build grip into the material itself, not onto it. The range covers stair nosing, anti-slip sheeting, walkways and handrails, engineered for consistent grip across the product's life.

Solar farms bring a specific set of infrastructure demands — non-conductive materials near live electrical equipment, corrosion resistance for exposed sites, and components light enough to install across large, spread-out arrays.

Composite materials are well suited to all three, an emerging application as solar continues to scale across Australia.
