Check out this article 'Unearthed', the ABACUS student exhibition that opens today and explores art in archaeology and anthropology! Curators Isabella Shaw and Iona Claringbold chat about the intersection between arts and sciences, and the importance of sharing academic research in accessible, non-traditional manners!

You can see 'Unearthed' at the Australian Centre on China in the World Gallery, on campus at ANU.

The artists behind the exhibition ‘Unearthed’ are more accustomed to plying their trade with trowels, microscopes, and a good notebook rather than paints and canvases. That’s because the featured artists are students and staff in archaeology and anthropology at ANU. The exhibition shows the wa...

You may have heard about the ABACUS Student Conference coming up in June, but did you know that we’re also holding a student-led exhibition? This is where we need you!

Our disciplines contain so many creative methodologies, techniques and outputs that allow us to visualise the past, human lives, and behaviour. Think technical illustrations, thin section photographs, profile drawings, microscopic imaging, reconstructive painting, photos from the field. These can all be artworks in their own right, but there are also more conceptual ways of creatively interpreting our disciplines- conceptual sculptures, abstract paintings, ceramic creations, wearable art.

We invite you all to a workshopping session next Thursday, where we’ll be discussing and sharing ideas. No prior artistic experience is necessary, we believe this is something everyone can participate in, and we can help you develop any ideas you might have!

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch before then if you are interested in contributing, or have any questions or burning ideas!

Here is an event page for the workshopping session: https://fb.me/e/4ydkoNb4x
