We've built SharePoint intranets for some of Australia's most complex organisations. The brief is always the same: make it easier for people to find what they need and get on with their work.

The way we get there is always different.

Every intranet we deliver starts with research. Not assumptions - actual conversations with the people who will use it every day. From there we design systems that work for how the organisation actually operates, then we build and ship.

We've done this for federal agencies, enterprise clients, and cultural institutions. Each one is different. Each one is built right.

If your intranet has become the thing people avoid, we should talk.

We are so excited to welcome Tom to the Hide and Seek team, as an Engineering Lead!

Known for driving the tech side of product development, and with a serious thirst for adventure, Tom has a talent for bringing the two together to create remarkable experiences, both online and offline.

He's drawn to companies with strong culture and a genuine commitment to improving how they build for their team and their clients, which makes him a perfect fit around here.

Outside of work, you'll find Tom chasing waterfalls, hunting down delicious food, or turning a "this should be quick" idea into a full-blown project. Lately that's been a mix of property and SaaS tools.

We're thrilled to have him on board and can't wait to ship some award-winning work together!

In the AI landscape, the buzz often centres around revolutionising products at breakneck speed. However, let's not confuse this with the art of evolution. While AI tools can accelerate workflows and propose solutions, they can’t replace the nuanced understanding that comes from product thinking.

Product evolution is about iterative learning, grounded in real user feedback and hypothesis testing. It’s about refining what exists, enhancing value, and making informed decisions under uncertainty. Conversely, product revolution often aims for sweeping changes without considering the existing framework, risking user disconnection and wasted resources.

As we navigate this AI-driven era, clarity and judgement remain paramount. Are we truly listening to our users, or are we being seduced by the allure of rapid transformation?

How does your team balance evolution and revolution in your product strategy?

In product design, we often face the paradox of choice. While it’s tempting to pack our offerings with features, too many options can actually hinder user engagement. 🤔

When users are overwhelmed by choices, they may struggle to identify what truly matters, leading to decision fatigue and disengagement. A streamlined, focused approach often yields better results, allowing users to navigate with ease and confidence.

Focusing on core functionalities not only simplifies the user experience but also drives engagement and satisfaction. It’s about understanding user needs and delivering value over volume.

How do you balance feature-rich designs with user simplicity in your products?

In the rapidly evolving landscape of AI product development, asking "why" has never been more crucial. 🤔

Understanding the underlying purpose of our projects guides us to create solutions that genuinely resonate with users. It helps in clarifying objectives, aligning teams, and ensuring that our innovations meet real-world needs. By focusing on the "why," we can avoid common pitfalls, such as feature bloat and misaligned priorities, that often derail AI initiatives.

This approach fosters a culture of curiosity and accountability, driving teams to look beyond the surface and dig deeper into user motivations. So, let’s embrace the power of inquiry in our development processes.

What questions are you asking to clarify your project goals?

Before you write the first line of code, it’s crucial to pause and reflect: who are we really building this for?

In the fast-paced world of digital product development, it’s easy to get caught up in features and functionalities. However, the most successful products stem from a deep understanding of the users they serve. This requires asking the right questions: What are their needs? What challenges do they face? How can we genuinely enhance their experience?

At Hide and Seek, we champion a human-centred design approach. By engaging with users early in the process, we can gather invaluable insights that shape our solutions. This ensures that we’re not merely ticking boxes, but creating meaningful products that resonate with the very people we aim to help.

Remember, the first step in any successful project is understanding your audience. It’s not just about writing code; it’s about crafting solutions that truly matter.

How do you ensure that user needs remain at the forefront of your development process?

In the dynamic world of digital transformation, the Discovery phase is often where the foundation for success is laid. One of the most critical aspects of this phase is stakeholder feedback, which can never be underestimated.

Engaging with stakeholders early on provides invaluable insights that shape the direction of a project. Their perspectives can unveil challenges and opportunities that might not be immediately apparent, ensuring that the end product truly meets user needs and organisational goals.

Moreover, stakeholder feedback fosters a sense of ownership and alignment. When stakeholders feel their voices are acknowledged, it cultivates trust and encourages collaboration throughout the project’s lifecycle. This not only enhances the quality of the final product but also streamlines the implementation process, as everyone is on the same page from the outset.

Involving stakeholders in the Discovery phase is not just a formality, it's an essential practice that can lead to more innovative solutions and ultimately, greater impact.

In today’s remote work landscape, fostering a culture of trust is paramount for enhancing employee engagement. When team members feel trusted, they are more likely to take initiative, share ideas, and collaborate openly, leading to a more dynamic and productive environment.

So, how can organisations cultivate this trust? First and foremost, transparent communication is key. Regular check-ins and open channels for feedback help employees feel valued and heard. When leaders share insights about company goals and challenges, it creates a shared sense of purpose.

Next, empower employees by giving them autonomy in their roles. When individuals have the freedom to make decisions and take ownership of their work, it fosters a sense of responsibility and belonging. This autonomy should be coupled with clear expectations, so everyone understands their contributions to the bigger picture.

Moreover, recognising and celebrating achievements, big or small, reinforces trust and appreciation. Acknowledging the hard work of team members fosters a positive atmosphere where everyone feels motivated to contribute.

Lastly, prioritising mental well-being and work-life balance shows employees that their personal lives matter. Supporting a healthy work culture strengthens relationships and builds a resilient team.

In the realm of product experience, the quest for perfection can often overshadow the importance of functionality. When striving for an exceptional user experience, it’s crucial to ask: when is ‘good enough’ truly enough?

Perfectionism can lead to paralysis, where teams become so focused on refining every last detail that they miss the opportunity to deliver a product that serves its purpose effectively. In contrast, a product that is “good enough” can still provide substantial value to users. It’s about finding that sweet spot where functionality meets quality without overextending resources and timelines.

To strike this balance, organisations should embrace a mindset of iterative improvement. Launching a product that meets user needs, even if it isn’t flawless, allows for real-world feedback which can guide future enhancements. This approach fosters agility and responsiveness, ensuring that products evolve based on actual user experiences rather than hypothetical ideals.

Ultimately, it’s about understanding your audience and delivering a solution that addresses their needs, rather than getting lost in the pursuit of an unattainable ideal.

How does your organisation define the balance between perfection and functionality in product development?

In the fast-evolving world of digital projects, agility is often hailed as the cornerstone of innovation. However, an overemphasis on agility can sometimes spiral into chaos, undermining the very goals teams hope to achieve.

When agility becomes the primary focus, there's a risk of sacrificing structure and clarity. Teams may prioritise speed over thoroughness, leading to incomplete solutions and fragmented outputs. The pursuit of rapid iterations can create confusion, especially when roles and responsibilities are not well-defined, resulting in duplicated efforts or missed opportunities.

Moreover, constant changes driven by agile methodologies can disrupt team morale. Without a stable foundation, team members may feel overwhelmed, leading to burnout rather than creativity. Innovation thrives in environments where there is both flexibility and a sense of direction, too much agility can blur the lines of purpose and focus.

To harness the true power of agility, organisations must strike a balance. Embracing agile principles while maintaining clear objectives and accountability can help teams navigate complexity without losing sight of their vision.

How does your organisation balance agility with structure in digital projects?
