How many years will it take to achieve full gender equality?

We posed this question to a room full of participants at an International Women's Day event in Canberra - 80 per cent answered incorrectly.

⏳ Over 300 years.

Three centuries. Twelve generations. Long after every person in that room and reading this post right now. And their children, and their grandchildren, are gone.

This means that the way we are tackling this wicked problem of gender inequality is not enough! Gender equality won't happen on its own. It requires investment, intention, and the courage to reimagine how we do things.

Who has 300 years? We need to move faster, together.

🍊 Peel. Trace. Reimagine.

Three weeks ago, in Canberra, Go Equal collaborated with Her ilink in an IWD event where Amanpreet Dhindsa held a workshop, ‘Peel Your World: Reimagining Equality’. Participants were asked to peel mandarins, trace the skins into world maps, and use colour and words to illustrate their vision of equality.

Every map was different. And together, they painted a picture of just how personal and dimensional the work of gender equality really is.

Equality isn't a single destination. It looks different depending on where you're standing, who you are, and what world you've had to navigate.

Next month is Federal Budget month, which means it's time for our annual game of follow-the-money for gender equality!

National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW) is offering a free, online, practical training session for gender equality advocates on applying gender impact analysis to the federal budget. Learn how to spot unconscious gender bias in our nation's policies without feeling bamboozled.
