It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Michael “Big Mick” O’Reilly last night.

For many years, Big Mick enriched the O’Reilly’s experience with his genuine love of the birdlife, unforgettable personality and remarkable ability to remember the names of so many guests—with a little help from his treasured library of notebooks.

He will also be fondly remembered for burning the toast, attempting to play the harmonica and bringing plenty of laughter and character to the mountain.

We know many of you will have special memories of Big Mick, and we invite you to share your stories and photos in the comments below.

Rest peacefully, Big Mick. You will be greatly missed. 🤍

On Sunday, 7 June, we set the table for 120 guests at O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards, welcoming them to a sold-out Longest Lunch experience beside Canungra Creek. More than just a meal, the afternoon celebrated local flavours, community spirit and the stories behind the people and produce that make the Scenic Rim so special.

Against the backdrop of the vineyard and flowing creek, guests gathered at our beautifully styled long table to enjoy an afternoon showcasing the very best of the region. From locally inspired shared platters and conversations with producers to live music, flowing drinks, a retro bar and charming moments with our resident farm animals, the day perfectly captured the spirit of Scenic Rim Eat Local Month.

Throughout the afternoon, the vineyard was filled with conversation, laughter and a genuine sense of connection. Guests lingered over generous shared feasts, raised a glass to local producers and embraced the relaxed, creekside atmosphere that has become synonymous with our Longest Lunch. In true Canungra Valley style, even a surprise visit from our neighbouring geese became one of the most talked-about moments of the day.

This year’s Longest Lunch also formed part of our Centenary celebrations, marking 100 years since the O’Reilly family first welcomed visitors to the mountains in 1926. Gathering around one long table to share local food, w**e and stories was a fitting reflection of the hospitality and community spirit that has been at the heart of O’Reilly’s for a century.

A heartfelt thank you to our guests, local producers and guest speakers, our talented chefs, musicians, photography by and our dedicated team who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We would also like to extend our appreciation to , who generously partnered with us by providing their beautiful mobile bar setup and support team for the day.

Thank you for celebrating the people, produce and place that make the Scenic Rim extraordinary. We can't wait to do it all again. 🌿

Today, we celebrate 100 years of Sir David Attenborough — we were incredibly fortunate to welcome Sir David to O’Reilly’s during the 1970s and 1990s while filming and studying the remarkable Regent and Satin Bowerbirds within the rainforests of Lamington National Park.

For generations, his storytelling has inspired millions to better understand, appreciate and protect the beauty of our planet and the creatures that inhabit it.

Thank you, Sir David, for a lifetime of education, inspiration and advocacy for nature. Happy 100th Birthday.
