Bring the fisho’s back to Cardwell

Well at least this is moving forward. The dollars for the Port Hinchinbrook sewerage treatment plant have been committed to so Cassowary Coast Regional Council can now get that finished & off the books which leaves the door open now to start sorting out acquiring land & dredging the marina with Steven Miles committing to pushing this forward. Yes I know that boat access relies on a labour win at the poling booth but the conversation is now moving forward & seriously David Crisafulli who is a local to our region can’t even be bothered to show his face. I’m taking this a a positive step forward for Cardwell & the debacle at Port Hinchinbrook. Let’s all cross our fingers it sticks

Definitely a step in the right direction…baby steps, baby steps but we will get there in the end

🛥️Navigating a way forward for Port Hinchinbrook. 🛟⚓️

Today’s meeting in Cairns with the Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor, Division 1 Councillor, Staff and State Government representatives was an important step in the right direction.

I was impressed with the Council’s willingness to be apart of a broader conversation in regards to the part they could play in conjunction with the state to develop a long term strategy for dredging at Port Hinchinbrook and finalising the normalisation process of the development.

We also discussed ways to add value and de-risk the project for a potential future developer of the marina basin and land assets.

Everyone agrees that if remediated correctly and set up properly Port Hinchinbrook would become an asset once again for the Greater Cassowary Coast Region.

A lot of work needs to be done following this initial meeting and I look forward to keeping everyone updated as information comes to light.

Good on youNick Dametto MP love your work fighting hard to get the Port Hinchinbrook debacle sorted. This seems positive to me and certainly a step in the right direction. Rome wasn’t built in a day unfortunately but the cogs are turning 🤞🤞🤞👍👍

Finally got a reply from Steven Miles office about the Port Hinchinbrook boat ramp. Rather bland kinda pass the buck reply🙄 Seems pretty clear to me that no airport in Cardwell means it’s too hard for the toffee noses down south to visit and actually have a look at what we are dealing with.

Looks like the Cassowary Coast Regional Council might be finally getting onboard with the One Mile Creek debacle. Solid plans for the emergency dredging being released and now supporting Nick Dametto MP and the Cardwell Chamber of Commerce in their efforts for a permanent dredging solution & plan

So I emailed David Crisafulli MP a couple of weeks ago inviting him to visit Cardwell so we could start a discussion around what his government could do to fast track the paperwork etc for the Port Hinchinbrook boat ramp…this is the reply I received today…seems very uninterested in the place, basically ignored my email but said make sure you vote for me…I will keep trying

This was an hour before the 1.05m low tide today…hope no one needs the Coastguard, make sure you only break down or have a medical emergency on the high tide please 🤬🤬🤬

I’ll be having a chat with Marty on The NQ Fishing Show Saturday morning about the One Mile Creek boatramp and how it’s affected Cardwell businesses, the safety of fisho’s with the inability of the Coastguard being able to get out if needed etc etc. If there are any Cardwell businesses or clubs who would like me to mention something specific let me know 😊

This is what we are dealing with everyday. I know Port Hinchinbrook is a bit of an oddball situation just because of the Conformed Deed that had to be amended & changed but seriously Yasi was in 2011, that’s 13yrs ago…get this 💩sorted

Cardwell is truly one of the most picturesque, spectacular places & the gateway to Hinchinbrook Island, Gould, Garden, Eva, The Brooke islands geez the list goes on. Great fishing, great day tripping let’s sort this 💩
