But not all generators are suitable for home connection — and connecting them the wrong way can be illegal and extremely dangerous.
Here’s what you need to know:

🔌 Running appliances directly from the generator?
An inverter or isolated type is safest.

🏠 Connecting to your house via inlet & changeover switch?
You must use the correct generator type and have it installed properly by a licensed electrician.

🚫 Never back-feed your switchboard using a “suicide lead.”
This can kill lineworkers and damage your home.

⚠️ Hard-wired connection to your home?
A compliant changeover switch and proper wiring is required under AS/NZS 3000.

Huge shoutout to our boys especially nick & reuben aswell as the clean up crews and other tradesmen

A fair few properties were energised today but due to water/moisture ingress we could only get essentials going.

Please bare in mind the following

• ergon have hooked power upto some properties that haven't been electrically checked, it is upto you as the home owner to ensure they are tested thoroughly before energising

• if you are recieving any tingles please get to a safe place/turn off your main switch (if possible) and call a licenced electrician

• we are concentrating on essential services (so if you call because your pool pump/air con ect isn't going) this will be a low priority and we will attend when practical

• we will be doing a round of hookups (essential power) then back around doing remmedial works to rectify non essentials

• we are finding around 70% of circuits that haven't been under water are testing bad due to moisture so please don't risk it

It's time to kick our muddy boots off and take a well-deserved break.
