Melbourne Microfinance Initiative Welcome to the first and largest microfinance student society at an Australian university!

The Melbourne Microfinance Initiative (MMI) is a student-run organisation at the University of Melbourne which provides pro-bono consulting services predominantly to microfinance institutions, and empowers students to make a difference. Founded in 2010, MMI is the first and largest microfinance (oriented) organisation established at an Australian university, and has now expanded to include project

s that centre on social impact and financial inclusion. Our goals:
Social Impact: to have a direct impact on communities in the Asia-Pacific and the world
Student Engagement: to empower students with practical knowledge and skills
Inspire: to inspire people to take action against poverty and social inequality

With a portfolio of active consulting projects throughout the Asia-Pacific and regular social impact focussed student events, MMI is growing and empowering more communities and more students each year. We are proudly affiliated with the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne Student Union.

🚨 MMI recruitment is officially open for Semester 2, 2026 🚨

Melbourne Microfinance Initiative is now accepting applications for 3 positions across our organisation, and if you’ve been looking to join a community of driven individuals with a passion for social impact, this is exactly that opportunity!

No prior experience is required! What we care about is your drive, your curiosity and your willingness to show up and contribute to work that extends well beyond the classroom. MMI has spent years building a reputation as one of the University of Melbourne’s most impactful student-run organisations, and the people who join us are the reason why.

The recruitment timeline is tight, so don’t leave it to the last minute!! Applications close Friday 15 May at 11:59 PM, with group and individual interviews to follow the week after, and an induction on Saturday 23 May for successful applicants.
