Melbourne Microfinance Initiative The Melbourne Microfinance Initiative (MMI) is the first and largest student-led microfinance organisation in Australia.

The Melbourne Microfinance Initiative (MMI) is a student-run organisation at the University of Melbourne which provides pro-bono consulting services predominantly to microfinance institutions, and empowers students to make a difference. Founded in 2010, MMI is the first and largest microfinance (oriented) organisation established at an Australian university, and has now expanded to include projects that centre on social impact and financial inclusion. Our goals:
Social Impact: to have a direct impact on communities in the Asia-Pacific and the world
Student Engagement: to empower students with practical knowledge and skills
Inspire: to inspire people to take action against poverty and social inequality

With a portfolio of active consulting projects throughout the Asia-Pacific and regular social impact focussed student events, MMI is growing and empowering more communities and more students each year. We are proudly affiliated with the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne Student Union.

A massive thank you to everyone who came down to Social Impact in Tech, our inaugural tech event. With 150+ sign-ups and 14 firms joining us on the night, it was great to see so much interest in the intersection of technology and social impact.

A huge thank you to Robert Batchelor, Kyle Reynolds, Kevin Nguyen and Edward Chan for joining us as panellists and sharing their insights and experiences.

Lastly, this event would not have been possible without all the representatives who took time out of their evening to join us, connect with students and share their perspectives.
