Thistle Hill’s certified organic vineyards are 40 years old and are some of the oldest certified premium organic vineyards in all of Australia. at wine tastes better this way. We don’t like chemicals in our food, why should it be in our wine? We boast two exceptional vineyards under our one roof with Thistle Hill and Erudgere Vineyards that both produce high quality, premium grapes. The newest vineyard addition to Thistle Hill is our Erudgere Vineyard, planted in 1968, and is expected be certified organic by NASAA in 2012. It has been farmed organically for several years now and has received an ‘Organic in Conversion’ classification from NASAA this year for 2011. NASAA is the Australian and International Organic Certifier. Organic vineyards are naturally stronger and tougher to fend off pests and such. We find less need to use sprays, but when we do, we only use organic (from the earth) sprays such as copper and sulphur. Cabernet and Riesling are the flagship varietals with Chardonnay and Shiraz also being top offerings, as well as a small block of Pinot Noir. The Estate sits at 600 meters above sea level with most of the blocks facing South East and down sloped. The soil is red soil with quartz and granite. There are approximately 80 acres under vine with another 200 acres available to grow. We also have working relationships with several top organic growers in our region.
