The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) approached MPW to help solve a major challenge with their bridge pontoons. Their original aluminium pontoons were being crushed each year as the lake froze over, causing the bridge to sink.

Our team designed and fabricated a stronger solution, a rigid HDPE box with gussets, foam-filled with polyurethane for durability and buoyancy.

Recently, a severe blizzard froze the lake and put our design to the test. Heavy ice build-up caused the bridge to sink, but once the ice was cleared, it floated straight back to the surface with the pontoons showing zero signs of damage.

A fantastic example of MPW’s innovative design and fabrication skills making a real difference in one of the harshest environments on Earth.

Yesterday’s announcement is a truly sad day for regional Tasmania. The decision to pause the salmon industry’s growth sends shockwaves far beyond the farms themselves. It ripples through the entire supply chain, crippling small and medium enterprises that rely on a stable and forward moving industry.

A pause doesn’t just stop expansion, it stops investment, stops innovation, and stops the momentum we’ve built toward becoming a world leading, sustainable aquaculture sector. It undermines job security for thousands of Tasmanians, particularly in regional communities where opportunities are already limited. It discourages people from moving to or staying in these areas, eroding the very fabric of our local economies.

We need a government that stands by its word. A government that works with industry, not against it. We call on the Premier and his government to work with the people and businesses who are building Tasmania’s future, on land and at sea.

Great to see you Eric, thanks for visiting. 😀

Many of our team live with their families in the coastal communities we farm in. They spend their time boating, fishing, diving and surfing. These waterways are our backyard, and we’re committed to caring for them, for all Tasmanians.

Huon is at the forefront of innovation, utilising world-leading technologies such as land-based salmon farming facilities, vaccination against diseases and maintaining strict stocking density in pens.

Thanks for supporting Tasmanian salmon workers, now and into the future.
