Mount Alexander tastes cheesy!

If you're ever in Castlemaine, be sure to stop by Long Paddock Cheese.

This artisan creamery is a total hidden gem, crafting award-winning cheeses by hand, right in the heart of Central Victoria.

Think silky brie, nutty semi-hard styles, and melt-in-your-mouth blues. They use organic milk from local farms and traditional, slow-ripening methods that bring serious depth and character to every wheel.

It’s run by a passionate crew of cheese enthusiasts (including internationally trained affineurs) who are dedicated to flavour, sustainability, and giving back to the local food community.

Stock up for your weekend platter, or just nerd out over good cheese with people who really know their stuff. You’ll leave full, and maybe a little inspired.

Find them at The Mill Castlemaine which is also home to brewers, bakers, makers, and all the good things.

Mount Alexander tastes like it’s worth travelling for…

What is the occasion, you ask? ‘National Lamington Day’ (yes, it’s a thing and a good excuse!).

July 21st is National Lamington Day. This delicious food holiday celebrates one of Australia’s iconic culinary treats, the humble Aussie Lamington, also known as Lammie or Lammo, as you like.

Lord Lamington, Governor of Queensland from 1896 to 1901, is credited with creating the Lamington. A Lamington is made of sponge cake dipped in chocolate. After dipping, he decided to sprinkle the cake with fine coconut. We’re sure Lord Lamington did all of his own baking. ;)

We have many bakeries worth visiting that supply these tasty treats in person, and even sell them at our local markets, made with great care and attention to an Aussie classic.

Check out Maldon Bakery, known as Australia's oldest continually operating bakery, and Blumes Historic Bakery in Harcourt. These bakeries, and many more in the area do much more than the humble Lamington and govern the incredible Tastes of Mt. Alexander.

Get a taste of French cuisine with a dash of Canaret this Monday 14th of JULY as they celebrate Bastille Day at The Taproom - Shedshaker Brewing

They are going French for one night only for a special Bastille Day celebration with a delicious 3-course dinner and the hilarious cabaret show ‘Under the Paris Sky’, starring Georgia Darcy.

Think duck, seafood, loads of French cheese (plus great vego + vegan options) and French-style wines to match.

Mount Alexander tastes like a ‘Recipe for Respect’ Cooking Classes in Castlemaine with a deeper purpose. Starting from Sat 26th of July.

Let us introduce you to a brand-new program, ‘Recipe for Respect’ by Anwyn or Apple Annie locally, a hands-on cooking class designed to reconnect couples through food, creativity and meaningful conversation.

Created by Anwyn Stekerhofs, a hospitality veteran with over 30 years worth of experience in the gruelling hospo game. The workshop blends practical cooking skills with tools drawn from her training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and hypnotherapy.

Pretty cool, huh? Each class includes a beautiful shared meal, all equipment and ingredients provided, and a bonus RESPECT apron to take home.

Held Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm at Johnny Baker Uptown in Castlemaine.

Participants are encouraged to share their biggest cooking challenge or personal goal when booking, so the program can be shaped to meet real needs.
