Oh Switzerland I so dig them!

Can a Swiss company capture CO₂ directly from the air? 🇨🇭

With Direct Air Capture technology, Climeworks is doing exactly that.

Founded in 2009, the Swiss company has become a global leader in carbon dioxide removal, developing machines that remove CO₂ directly from the atmosphere to support the path toward net zero and help limit global warming.

From its first commercial plant in Switzerland in 2017 to Orca in Iceland, the world’s first large-scale DAC and storage facility, and Mammoth, now its largest installation, Climeworks continues to scale its technology internationally.

With third-generation systems currently being tested in Switzerland and additional projects in development abroad, Swiss innovation is helping expand carbon removal capacity worldwide.

At least some companies know right from wrong!

Pacific National argued a train driver made likely “the most offensive physical gesture” anyone could make at work and Fair Work agreed it was a sackable offence even though it was a joke.

Great news. Cmon bring it home.

Australia and the European Union are on the cusp of finally reaching a free trade agreement after years of sometimes fraught negotiations.

🕰️ Zytglogge Clock Tower – Bern, Switzerland 🇨🇭
The Zytglogge is one of Bern’s most iconic landmarks and a true symbol of Swiss history. Built in the early 13th century, this medieval clock tower has witnessed centuries of life in the heart of Bern’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
What makes Zytglogge special is its astronomical clock, installed in the 15th century. Every hour, visitors gather to watch the charming mechanical show—moving figures, a crowing rooster, and the golden knight striking the bell, all working with remarkable precision.
Once used as a city gate, prison, and guard tower, Zytglogge now stands as a reminder of Bern’s rich past and Swiss craftsmanship. Climbing the tower offers stunning views over the rooftops of the old city and the Aare River.
⏳ A place where time, history, and beauty come together.

Swiss Infrastructure has been in for decades…still going strong like their train networks.

Suggest we stop getting advice from a bunch of amateurs and start requesting a seat at the table with Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden.

I saw it with my own eyes - something we first saw in the 1970s in the Leyland bros. We’ve taken too long on the uptake.

In 1982, in the era of pop melodies on cassette tapes, Swiss photovoltaic panels were, for the first time in Europe, connected to the electricity grid. ⚡

Named TISO, for “Ticino Solare”, it was designed near Lugano, in southern Switzerland, by a group of researchers. It had a capacity of 10 kilowatts and consisted of 288 modules. 🇨🇭

At that time, photovoltaic technology was mainly used in alpine huts and mountain chalets, through small panels dedicated to lighting. Connection to the electrical grid was considered unnecessary due to excessively high costs. The project nevertheless attracted the interest of the scientific community and, for the first time worldwide, its output was monitored by a reference laboratory. 📊

The technology and materials used for TISO were cutting-edge, derived directly from space applications. Today, 48 of the original 288 modules are still in operation, allowing the system to remain active. More recent photovoltaic modules have been added over the years.
