Can you spot anything different about this block?

It’s an unsprayed mirid trial block. No insecticide applications were made through the season.

Final result: there was no measurable yield difference between this block and the adjacent block which had one spray.

A good reminder that not every pest pressure translates into yield loss- and sometimes the crop can handle more than we expect when it’s closely monitored.

The gap between summer and winter is the time we catch up on office jobs, but also when we engage with those who are interested in farming and agronomy. Matt and Liz have both been busy catching up with students from Downlands, Glennie, UQ and West Moreton Anglican College explaining what is involved with agronomy and how instrumental it is as a career to the success of cropping enterprises. We always enjoy these days out and thank Howard Coggan from Cotton Australia for including us.

Huge congratulations to Tyson and Rosie for making it through to the finalists of this years National Grower of the Year Awards. One spray over 3 years with no change to yield results, showing that IPM has a place in our cotton system. All the best Tyson and Rosie!
