Asbestos Found in Classic Cars? Yes — It’s a Real Thing!

We recently inspected this classic car and found an original factory asbestos warning sticker under the bonnet.
Many European cars built before the mid-1990s used asbestos in heat- and friction-related components such as:

🔸 Brake pads
🔸 Exhaust manifold gaskets
🔸 Heat shields & bonnet insulation
🔸 Clutch plates (manual models)

This sticker doesn’t mean the whole car is contaminated — it’s simply a reminder that some original parts may contain asbestos and should only be handled by trained professionals.

If you're restoring, servicing, or importing an older vehicle, especially from Europe, it’s important to know what you’re dealing with.

In the 1950s, Kent Ci******es released their “Micronite Filter,” which was later confirmed to contain crocidolite (blue) asbestos. Smokers unknowingly inhaled fibres with every cigarette.

This is another reminder of how widespread asbestos use once was, and why identifying asbestos in older homes and buildings is so important.

ASBESTOS-COLOURED SAND CLEAN-UP COMPLETED

Today our team completed a full clean-up at a local childcare centre after coloured sand used in craft activities was found to be part of the national asbestos recall.

We carried out:
✓ Site inspection
✓ HEPA vacuuming
✓ Damp wipe of all surfaces
✓ Removal & disposal of contaminated sand
✓ Final safety check of the play area

All works were completed safely, discreetly, and in line with NSW asbestos regulations.

If your school or centre has used recalled coloured sand between 2020–2025, we can help with advice or assessment.
