Feeding leftover food to your pigs may seem like a good idea, but you could be putting them at risk of animal diseases.

Whether you have a pet pig, a hobby farm or a commercial piggery, it’s illegal to feed pigs food scraps that have been in contact with or contain meat, eggs or some other animal products. These foods could introduce or spread diseases like foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever.

It’s safe to feed pigs fruit, vegetables, grains or commercial pig feed.
