Attention to all international students working in the Aged Care Sector!

The Australian Government has announced that student visa holders already working in the aged care sector on 9 May 2023 can continue to work unrestricted hours in the aged care sector until 31 December 2023.

From 1 July 2023, work restrictions for all other student visa holders will be re-introduced and capped at the increased rate of 48 hours per fortnight. This ensures that student visa holders are able to focus on obtaining a quality Australian education and qualification, while remaining able to support themselves financially, gain valuable work experience, and contribute to Australia’s workforce needs.

The government will be changing the annual salary requirements or Temporary Skilled Migration Threshold (TSMIT) from $53,900 to $70k. This requirement is needed so that an employer can sponsor an employee for the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) 482 visa. However, this seems to be the requirement to be able to apply for the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) 191 visa for those who are in the 491 and 494 visas (Regional workers visa).

The 191 visa was introduced last November 2022. Since then, it has not been confirmed how much the salary is needed to apply for the 191 visa. But, when you read the DHA website, it seems to be referring to the TSMIT.

Here are the things to expect when or if the 191 visa will have the same requirement as the TSMIT for the TSS 482 visa.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or to our social media.
