Are leaders born or made?

"Both factors play a role but there is definitely a sizeable "made" component. You see this when some psychologists describe the traits of effective leaders as:
* drive
* honesty and integrity
* knowing the business
* having a desire to lead
* displaying self-confidence and
* being intelligent.

These traits involve genetically-influenced (eg drive/energy), acquired (eg knowing the business) and mixed characteristics (eg self-confidence).
Given that leadership situations are highly varied and constantly changing, it's essential to develop leaders to be able to deal with all sorts of situations. This no doubt why sustainable organisations invest heavily in employee training and development."

We're so excited that Harry Bergsteiner, head of our Institute's Thought Leadership area, is presenting a paper at ITISE 2022. Harry's detailed analysis shows that nations that adopt Sustainable Leadership practices outperform those that don't, including the Anglo/US countries. No matter what the WEF's highly flawed Global Competitiveness Reports might assert!

Does Sustainable Leadership practice pay off?

Research shows a clear YES! So are you really doing the right thing in your business?

Firms with responsible social and environmental practices make similar short-term profits but add long-term benefits like:
* greater organisational resilience in a crisis
* lower financial volatility
* higher sales growth, and
* higher chances of survival over a 15 year period.
(Research by Ortiz-De-Mandojana & Pratima Bansal (2016)

Sustainable Leadership drives high performance by addressing the interests of all stakeholders, including society and the environment; by fostering employees and a supportive organisational culture; and by ensuring good governance, a long-term perspective and high ethical standards.
