Headed out to Ross Creek Tropicals today and totally enjoyed the nursery and manicured grounds. Well done to Tom and Troy for such a great sharing of knowledge. Even headed home with a few plants for our own parkland.

This beautiful tree held great sentimental value to the clients, having grown up with it at their parents place for decades. It unfortunately had to come down due to causing extensive damage.
With a 2m diameter base, I spent the time to carefully plan the pruning and winching. It took 1.5 days by myself to get it over and cut up. The first 6m of the trunk was kept for milling so it may continue to give value to the client for many more years.

Sometimes inspecting tree can be done safely with a drone as in this case of a lightening struck oak.

During November 2022, with consistent rainfall and rising water table levels we saw many trees that were failing from the root plates. Contrary to popular belief that tree roots 'just grow deep into the ground' or 'at least as far as the height of the tree' it amazes how close to the trunk that they actually fail.
If you're not sure about your tree, get it inspected by a qualified and insured arborist.

Thanks to Ants Seam line for the new rope bag to protect and store an 80m climbing line.
Quality made! This will keep it clean, dry and ready for those larger trees or as a rescue line.
If you need something custom made I recommend getting in touch with Sharon, I only ordered it less than a week ago.

In a recent trip I found some time to study the ecology of rainforests in Queensland. One of the my favourite trees which formed the majority of upper stratum (tree canopy) are these Blue Marble Trees - Elaeocarpus angustifolius. They have large buttress roots above the surface which helps the tree dissipate the wind forces of sub-tropical storms. The blue fruit were between 20-30mm in diameter and scattered on the ground.

The markings found on these Eucalyptus racemosa (Scribbly Gums) are so eye catching, they are caused by moth larvae as they eat their way out after being laid in the bark. As the moth larvae gets bigger, generally so does the markings. It doesn't cause damage to the tree, but just leaves brilliant patterns.

This week a Melbourne golf club had a pine tree that was failing from the root plate. Too wet to get any trucks to it and it was likely to cause expensive damage the lined dam or dam wall. Before heavy rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon the tree was taken down.
If you need a tree assessed for risk of failure, don't hesitate to contact us. Servicing greater suburbs of Melbourne through to Mansfield.
