There’s a reason the Flat White is the crown jewel of Australian coffee culture. It’s all about the texture.
At Hennessy Coffee, we know that a true Flat White is a delicate balance: you want the punch of a rich double espresso softened by the creamiest, thinnest layer of micro-foam imaginable. No big bubbles, no stiff peaks, just pure, liquid silk.
Want to pour a cafe-quality Flat White at home? Here’s the Hennessy way:
1️⃣ The Extract: Pull a double shot of a medium-to-dark Hennessy blend. You want those toasted nut and caramel notes to cut through the milk.
2️⃣ The Steam: Unlike a Cappuccino, you only want a tiny bit of aeration. Keep the steam wand just below the surface for a few seconds, then swirl to create that glossy, wet-paint look.
3️⃣ The Merge: Pour slowly and steadily into the centre of the crema.
4️⃣ The Finish: Keep the foam layer thin (about 5mm). The goal is a drink that feels heavy on the tongue but smooth to the finish.
Pro Tip: If your milk looks matte, it’s too hot. Aim for a glossy sheen to get that natural sweetness!
