“TAKE THE TIME TODAY TO LOVE YOURSELF. YOU DESERVE IT.“
– Avina Celeste

Lately, I’ve been feeling the internal tug to pause…

So much has shifted this year — unexpected changes, deep goodbyes, and big life transitions that have stretched my emotional edges.

Packing up my home of 10 years, whilst navigating the chaos of the housing market, and blending two families into one beautiful, evolving new chapter… has been a lot.

Even with all the gratitude I hold, I’ve noticed how easily my self-love practices have slipped away amidst the doing, holding, and supporting of everything going on...

So now, in a radical act of self-compassion, I’m giving myself space to rest. To reflect. To soften.

As such, I’ll be taking a break from social media over the Easter period and returning on Wednesday 23rd April, so I can return to this next chapter, revitalised, ready and capable…

To those who have journeyed alongside me thus far — thank you. I hope you too find time to pause, breathe, and receive what your heart needs most.

Happy Easter everyone,
Alaka x

Ever feel like your body is holding on to things your mind has tried to forget?

That’s not your imagination. Trauma — whether big or small — can get stored in our bodies, showing up as tension, chronic pain, or even fatigue.

But here’s the beautiful part: your body also knows how to release it.

Practices like breathwork, meditation, and gentle movement aren’t just “nice” self-care — they’re powerful tools for healing. When you give yourself space to pause, breathe, and reflect, you begin to untangle the stress that’s been living inside.

This is especially important in midlife, when we’re being invited (sometimes even pushed!) to reconnect with ourselves on a deeper level...

The wisdom you’ve gathered so far? It’s your guide. And your breath? It’s the bridge back home…

So take a moment today.
Breathe deeply.
Listen in.
Your body is ready to let go — and you don’t have to do it alone…

✨💕 Teach love. 💕 ✨

“How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.” – Rupi Kaur

Did you know that your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship in your life?

It’s true… The way you speak to yourself, care for your body, honour your boundaries, and hold space for your emotions — this is how you teach the world what love looks like, and what you are willing to accept.

So take some time to reflect and understand this…

Self-care isn’t indulgence — it’s instruction and tone setting.

Self-respect isn’t pride — it’s protection and self preservation.

Self-reflection isn’t navel-gazing — it’s wisdom and understanding.

Every time you pause, breathe, and ask yourself “What do I need?”, you’re not only tending to your own heart…
You’re rewriting the rules of love in your life.

Let your self-love be your greatest teacher.
Let it ripple outward.
Let it lead.

🌿 Quiet Your Mind: Embracing Mindfulness and Breathwork 🌿

Overthinking can often feel like a relentless storm, clouding our judgment and draining our energy. In a recent article by DMNews, a transformative 3-step method was shared to help calm the mind:

1. Recognize Overthinking: Begin by acknowledging when your thoughts spiral. Awareness is the first step toward change.

2. Anchor in Mindfulness: Ground yourself in the present moment. Focus on your breath, the sensations in your body, and your immediate surroundings. This practice can divert your mind from anxious thoughts.

3. Set ‘Worry Time’: Allocate a specific time in your day to address your concerns. This strategy confines overthinking to a designated period, freeing the rest of your day for more constructive thoughts.

Integrating breathwork and meditation into your daily routine can further enhance this process:

• Breathwork: Engaging in controlled breathing exercises can activate the body’s relaxation response, reducing stress and promoting emotional balance. Techniques like deep abdominal breathing can be particularly effective.

• Meditation: Regular meditation fosters a sense of calm and clarity, helping to manage stress and improve overall well-being. Even a few minutes each day can make a significant difference.

By consciously incorporating these practices, you can create a sanctuary of peace within, navigating life’s challenges with greater ease and resilience.

What if the key to feeling calmer, clearer, and more connected… was right under your nose?

James Nestor, author of Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art, reminds us:

“The perfect breath is this: Breathe in for about 5.5 seconds, then exhale for 5.5 seconds.”

It’s that simple. 5.5 seconds in. 5.5 seconds out. About 5.5 breaths per minute.
This rhythm activates your parasympathetic nervous system—the part of you that knows how to rest, restore, and feel safe.

Try it now.
Close your eyes.
Breathe in… 2…3…4…5…
Breathe out… 2…3…4…5…

Feel the shift?

Your breath is always with you. And it’s always ready to guide you home.

✨ Beating the stresses of Motherhood! ✨

Motherhood is a rewarding journey, but it often comes with its unique set of stressors.

Incorporating breathwork, meditation, and self-care practices into your daily routine can be powerful tools to manage and alleviate this stress.

Understanding Mum Stress:

According to Dr. Susan Landers, factors such as social media use can significantly contribute to increased stress levels among mothers, particularly new mums. The constant exposure to idealised portrayals of parenting can create unrealistic expectations and feelings of inadequacy.

The Power of Breathwork and Meditation:

Engaging in breathwork and meditation can help counteract these stressors:-

• Breathwork: Conscious breathing techniques can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety.

• Meditation: Regular meditation practice can enhance mindfulness, allowing you to respond to stress more effectively and cultivate inner peace.

Embracing Self-Care:

💫 Prioritising self-care is essential.

Simple practices like taking a few minutes for deep breathing, engaging in activities you enjoy, and setting boundaries with technology can make a significant difference in managing stress.

Remember:

Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish — it’s necessary. By nurturing your well-being, you become better equipped to care for your loved ones.

During times like these, life has a way of surprising us — sometimes gently, sometimes like a tidal wave. In the midst of change and uncertainty, it’s easy to keep giving… until we’re running on empty.

But remember this:
“You can’t pour from an empty cup.” — Eleanor Brownn

So remember that your breath can be your anchor, and your meditation can be a refuge.

Your self-care is not indulgent — it’s essential, particularly when navigating chapters of stress and upheaval…

Daily practices like breathwork, stillness, and soulful rituals refill your cup. They help you meet the unexpected not with fear, but with grace. Not with resistance, but with resilience.

So pause...
Breathe deeply…
Come home to yourself…

You are worthy of the care you so freely give to others, particularly if you want to move through life with with ease and joy… not stress and overwhelm…

What ways will you give back to yourself this week?

So I’ve been going through a lot of big changes in my life recently, which at times, has been incredibly stressful…

As such, on Friday evening I went to a Sound Bath healing session, where breathwork and meditation were included.

The experience… It was absolutely divine.

There’s something deeply soothing about lying still, eyes closed, and letting waves of sound wash over you.

When I arrived into the small dome-like space, I didn’t expect much — perhaps maybe a bit of relaxation. But what I found was something far more profound: a gentle unraveling of tension I didn’t even know I was holding, as well as a deep recalibration of mind, body and spirit.

The vibrations from the crystal bowls seemed to reach places words couldn’t. Paired with slow, conscious breathwork, my body softened, my mind quieted, and my heart felt held.

Sound and breath — two simple yet powerfully ancient tools — coming together to offer deep rest, emotional release, and a reconnection to self, unlike anything else...

It wasn”t just relaxation. It was a return to the body. A coming home. A remembering…

So if you’ve been feeling scattered, anxious, or just craving a moment of stillness… this is a beautiful way to come home to yourself.

Have you ever tried a sound bath with breathwork? I’d love to hear what it felt like for you.

“Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.” — Robert Tew

There comes a time when holding on costs more than letting go.

Walking away isn’t weakness — it’s wisdom. It’s an act of deep self-respect and self-care. When something no longer nourishes your spirit, grows your heart, or honours your joy, you are allowed to release it.

Letting go makes space — for peace, for healing, for you!

Through gentle practices like breathwork, meditation, and honest self-reflection, you can reconnect with your truth.

These are not just tools — they’re lifelines to clarity…

They help you tune in to what you need, what you value, and who you are becoming…

You are allowed to prioritise your own well-being…

You are worthy of a life that feels like home to your soul…

Self-care is not selfish. It’s sacred…

So how can you align with this truth and support yourself more?

✨🧘‍♀️ Your Vagus Nerve: The Secret Pathway to Peace 🧘‍♀️✨

Did you know there’s a powerful nerve in your body that connects your brain, heart, lungs, and gut — and plays a key role in how you respond to stress?

It’s called the vagus nerve, and it’s part of your parasympathetic nervous system — the “rest and digest” side that helps your body feel safe and calm.

But when we carry unprocessed stress, especially over long periods, this system can get stuck in survival mode. Our breath becomes shallow. Our hearts race. Our digestion slows. And we may find ourselves feeling anxious, burnt out, or disconnected from our bodies.

The good news? You can gently reawaken your vagus nerve.

Through consistent breathwork and meditation, you can begin to signal to your body that it’s safe to relax. Each conscious breath is like a message of safety and care to your nervous system.

Try this:
Take a few moments right now. Inhale slowly through your nose for 4 counts. Exhale gently through your mouth for 6 counts. Repeat for a few rounds. Feel what shifts.

This is more than stress relief — it’s nervous system nourishment.

You deserve to feel calm, grounded, and connected in your body.

Your breath is always here to guide you home, so try it today… Your body will thank you…
