What’s the saying “from small things big things grow” or something like that.
Design Scope- a 1980’s structure - needing a total interiors refresh.
✅ 80% of my projects start w hand drawings and for all sorts of reasons. It’s immense fun working on all the different projects scopes I am engaged for and all the different needs each designer has. This designer already knows Sketchup but prefers to keep creating these design concepts and outsourcing the build to sketchitup. .

This brief overview of a lifecycle in 5 seconds also illustrates 4 different type of scope an Interior Designer might need.
1. 2D- converting an old plan to new 2D Design Concept for quoting purposes or space planning

2. Basic model concepts in black and white prior to aspecting finishing textures

3. adding textures for client to visualise your design concept and make adjustments and revisions

4. presenting the final Design concept as a Virtual Render.

👀 This modern extension had a few tweaks to the exterior after the client got to see 3D images- this was round 2- which is exactly why this tool and visualising concepts is sooooo important for those aren’t trained or can’t see in 2D - which is a majority of us!

A lot of projects scopes start w hand drawn plans and designs like this plan- AND THATS COMPLETELY 🆗.

The end product is what we should be judged on, not the steps to arrive there.

This project scope was a first floor layout revision, light textures refresh and all new furnishing plan.

An older home that had no original floor plan. This hand drawn plan was all we needed for a start plus photos.

Step 1 - “Design Concepts” created in Sketchup as part of the client presentation.

Once design concept is approved, Sketchup can provide 2D Detail for the joinery and finishes to receive quotes.

If only you could see the B4’s on this coastal holiday home which was due a refresh.

These images the culmination of many design decisions and hours spent prior.
Soooo many interior design decisions are made to reach this point.
I’m lucky I get called in at this point “like a finishing trade”. Package it up together and create a presentation for your client.

This project scope was 2D elevations for all joinery in the new build, and provide 3D kitchen images.

Once the Interior Designer completes the design concepts, they hand over to Sketchitup.

For this project , a 21 page presentation is completed for the Interior Designer, to present to their client.

This was an animation no body asked for 😂, bonus for the client!

Animation is still my favourite “thing”to do - walking thru a space- to gain a feel and provide context to a space is so different to a 2D image.

I’m using this Skp model as a test case. I’ve seen Virtual Walk thrus be completed from Sketchup and converted into Virtual walk throughs- so I will explore that technology and see what’s out there.
