We need to ACT in defence of regional media. Bellingen Shire Courier-Sun is the latest local newspaper to stand down journalists and stop telling local news stories as the COVID-19 nail is hammered into the coffin of mainstream media.
Dependence on social media for news perpetuates the spread of self-affirming, divisive and false information at a time when we need accurate, informed, researched and balanced news more than ever.
If you have a job or a JobKeeper payment, spend it on a subscription to print or online regional news.
If you own a business still operating, tell locals by advertising on local media and you will reach many more who are disengaged from social media and support regional media.
Campaign to your federal MP for serious reform of media laws to enable regional media and the wider mainstream media to continue to operate in a business environment which advantages social media platforms over content providers.

Mental Health Month 2012 was something of a PR triumph for Clairity. Commissioned by CHESS Employment to interview local identities for their advertorial, Focus Magazine agreed to run a photo of some of them on the cover and promote the CHESS Employment Umbrella Walk at dawn on World Mental Health Day in a separate story. Radio stations 2CS and ABC Local ran interview crosses with Claire Simmonds on breakfast radio and STAR FM sent their breakfast announcer on the walk. More than 90 people got up at dawn to walk in support of those with mental health issues. Cover page photo is by Greig Traynor.

This is one of my favourite stories. One of my clients, CHESS Employment commissioned me to identify and approach local 'identities' from a broad walk of life who may be willing to speak about how mental health has touched their own lives. More than 17 prominent locals, including both members of parliament (who sadly couldn't make the photo shoot due to parliamentary sitting dates) agreed. These are the interviews. Photos were taken by CR8 Studios. CHESS Employment paid for a double page spread in the Focus Magazine.

Were you aware I sponsor a local basketball team? These are the best singlets in the competition - much classier than the usual bobbing around the courts.
