I'm running a webinar tonight on 'getting your first sale' for a new business owners and was curious, what is the biggest fear people have with sales?

I already have some great case studies from my BYOB clients and will share my personal journey from my first sale to $1m ARR. But keen to hear what challenges people are facing.

Drop your comment or question below and I will answer them tonight. If you can't make it, we will send you a recording.

See you in a few hours!

In this webinar, Andrew Ford, M.D of Social Star & CampusLife, will break down a practical system to help you attract your ideal clients and turn them into your first sale, without relying on paid ads.

On Monday I had a great chat with Shaun Lord from the Owners Outlook Podcast that I was reflecting on this morning.

In a world of AI content, generated videos and scripted post there are still some people (in my example two blokes) sitting down for a chat, albeit virtually, sharing insights from our journeys and what has shaped who we are today.

These formats still have value and whilst they’re time consuming and a labour of love to run (I know, I’ve done it myself). AI cannot replace the value of humans collaborating and learning from each other; that’s where innovation and creativity happens.

Nowadays people always ask me ‘Andrew, it must be tough out there trying to compete with AI’, to be honest, it’s not really. Most of my clients see the value in showing up authentically, AI has its place in making things more efficient but it doesn’t replace that. Especially when, like it is for service based professions, you ARE the product.

The impact is that with this great rollout of access to opportunity people are getting more lazy… not putting the effort into building a personal brand or starting a podcast because the narrative is telling them there’s no point in doing something that takes effort when ‘you could just automate it!’

I’ll be here to tell you there is a point and from years of experience from the start of the ‘digital age’ until now that the value of people doesn’t change and if you put the effort into building a personal brand authentically, showing up for the love of the game (something I chatted about with Shaun), and rolling up your sleeves to put in some effort you WILL reap rewards. Maybe not immediately but it builds and snowballs over time.

That’s my Wednesday morning rant; if you take something out of this it’s to put effort into moving past the narrative of taking the shortcut and putting something real out there. You might be surprised at the result.

Thanks for the chat Shaun and keep an eye out for the episode when it drops folks!

A few weeks ago, I found myself standing in front of a friendly but unfamiliar audience in Brisbane – a city I don’t call home – and was reminded that the common need for connection isn’t just in Melbourne… it’s universal.

The event was a bit of a test. New location, different crowd, same mission: to create space for entrepreneurs to connect, share the real stuff, and build something bigger than themselves. And even though I did recognise a few familiar faces in the room (turns out the entrepreneurial web is tighter than you think), what struck me was how quickly we all clicked.

That’s the power of community.

I’ve lived this journey – from the corporate world to running my own thing. And I know firsthand how much of a difference it makes to have supportive people behind you. A good idea is great, but having a network that challenges you, backs you and cheers you on? That’s what actually gets you through the days where it all feels too much.

That’s why I started BYOB – and it’s why we’re building a community that’s growing faster than I expected since the Brisbane event. It’s made me incredibly grateful, and even more committed to keeping providing a variety of services to help you succeed.

So if you’re building your own thing and don’t want to do it alone – this community’s open. It’s free to join. It’s supportive. And it might just be the difference you need to take the leap.

Leave a comment if you want in and I’ll shoot over a link to join the free community. No catch.

Huge thanks again to Momina and Dyon for making the Brisbane night happen – you crushed it – and to Iyari, Mel, Corrie and Sven for showing up and sharing your brilliance. Legends, all of you.

Feel like your carefully crafted copy just isn’t cutting it anymore?

You’re not alone. Great words can do a lot, and don’t get me wrong - they’re really important. But sometimes people just need to *see* you, hear you, and get a feel for what it’s like to work with you. That’s where video comes in.

I’ve seen how even one simple, well-placed video can boost SEO, increase conversions, and build trust faster than a headline ever could. And no - it doesn’t have to be high-budget or high-pressure.

I had a blast running a workshop at the Public Speaking Australia chapter meeting in Brissy this week - right before our Build Your Own Business (BYOB) Brisbane launch later today - perfect timing :)

We unpacked how to get clients without selling - ditching the hard sell for a pull marketing approach that builds an army of referrers. Then we got hands-on, building and testing real pitches with a group of sharp, motivated speakers.

Great energy. Great conversations. Great community.

Big thanks to Dyon for snapping the shot and getting me there on time - bloody legend!

If anyone in Brissy and would like to catch up on Friday, shoot me a DM and I will see if we can arrange a coffee.
Special mention to Mel B for being such a wonderful host

You’ve probably heard me talk about BYOB, CampusLife, and Social Star over the years. But here’s what you might not know: they were never meant to be separate. By pairing them together, we've created a powerful ecosystem like no other.
In this blog, I share how these three brands came together to form an ecosystem to benefit everyone involved.

If you believe in learning by doing and building by lifting others, this story is for you.

Think blogging is dead? Not even close.

If you’re in professional services and want to get found online, your blog might just be your best-kept secret - for SEO and building real trust. But here’s the catch: it’s not about keyword stuffing or writing like a robot. It’s about being helpful, human, and a little bit personal.

Here’s a blog on how to make blogs (on your website and LinkedIn) actually work for your business. See link in comments

What fills my cup?

Working with likeminded entrepreneurs to help them in their journey to starting their own business.

If you've followed my career you'll know I'm always doing something new and finding ways to create space and information for entrepreneurs in any stage in their jouney. Years ago I used to run a course and networking group called BYOB. Now you may have seen a bit of noise about this recently so here's the down low on what's going on.

I've revised my framework for the Build Your Own Business Program which is a 12 step process I've built from all my experience working with business founders helping them build a business that are successful because they built it founded on THEIR values and lifestyle. This alignment ensures success in my experience. What does the old adage say? If you love your work you never work a day in your life.

Having taken two of my close connections through the program last year it is finally ready to go! Bigger and better than it ever has been; the online course allows people from everywhere to come together and build their businesses. Weekly coaching with yours truely means that those going through the course can ask all the questions and have the accountability to keep on at it. Utilising my new book, resources and the expertise of the team at Social Star we have a library of resources and information that ensures you position your business for success.

By adding a further 12 weeks onto the end of the accelerator I can now coach people through the early stages of running their business, teaching them effective sales strategies, how to pitch without 'selling' and the application of the Expert Marketing System. Providing the support they need to feel confident starting their businesses, navigate the emotional process of putting themselves out there and in the end building a lifestyle that is both fulfilling and sustainable.

We're now almost 4 weeks into the first official intake and I feel proud to have brought this group of people together, united by a passion and curiosity, making lifelong connections and creating a pathway to have the freedom to impact others and choose their path.

The road is not an easy one but it is the most rewarding in my experience and I feel priviledged to mentor these people through this journey.

Have you always dreamt of starting a business, have an idea you'd like to try? Take a look at the website or shoot me a message. Our next intake is in July.

This could be the next step to the rest of your life.

We’ve redefined CampusLife to support your next steps with intention and impact. This isn’t theory. It’s action.

In the blog, I break down exactly how we’re doing it, from our new work experience placements with real businesses, to how we’re helping you build confidence and skills that translate directly into employability. Took my son and a couple of his mates up to the golf course in Healesville last week. After dropping them off, I decided to close the laptop at 3pm and go for a walk.

I wasn’t aiming for anything profound — just needed a bit of fresh air. But as it turns out, the place was absolutely packed with kangaroos. Hundreds of them, lounging around like they had a club membership.

It was one of those quiet reminders that stepping away from work, even for an hour, can do a lot more good than pushing through. A walk, some open space, a few surprised kangaroo stares — it all helped reset the head and left me feeling a bit lighter (and mildly judged by wildlife).

Work-life balance doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s just about knowing when to shut the laptop and go for a wander.
