Australia's home battery market is expanding at an incredible rate. More households are looking at batteries to store excess solar, use more of the energy they generate and reduce their reliance on the grid.

But when an industry grows this quickly, it's important for homeowners to take a little more care when choosing who will design and install their system.

A recent ABC investigation has raised serious allegations about misconduct within parts of the battery industry, including claims of forged signatures, installations not being completed as claimed, unlicensed workers and customers being left with faulty or potentially unsafe systems.

These allegations relate to specific cases and shouldn't be taken as representative of the industry as a whole.

However, they reinforce an important message for anyone comparing battery quotes:

Don't compare batteries on price alone.

Two quotes can look similar on the surface while being very different in what they actually include.

Before making a decision, consider:
