I am an experienced, qualified carer of young children with expertise in working with families as a nanny to children from 1 month to 12 years. My last post was working for a family in London who required a live-in Nanny for boy/girl twins, aged 10. The boy has autism, which makes daily chores, reading emotions and understanding other people’s needs difficult. During term time my duties were to wa
ke them, serve them breakfast and then walk them to school. In the afternoon I collected them from school and helped them with their prep work before cooking their dinner. washing the dishes, cleaning up after the kittens, doing the children’s laundry, prepping dinner and tidying their playroom and bedrooms. My role would alter slightly during school holidays as I would do all of my duties plus look after the children during the day. Prior to moving to London I worked as a nanny to a family of two young boys, aged 15 months and 3 years. My main focus was with the youngest boy whom I was the sole carer of during the day. My duties began in the morning with preparing breakfast and getting the boys dressed for the day. I was responsible for the nursery drop off and pick up in the afternoon of the eldest boy. During the day I would take the youngest boy to organised activities including play groups, e.g., group reading sessions at the library, music classes in the park, swimming lessons and play dates with other nannies. I would also assist the family with basic chores around the house, such as, hanging out clothes, cleaning up the toy room and buying groceries. I also looked after a young boy aged 5 months. My responsibilities as the sole carer involved feeding him, changing his nappies, playing with him and putting him to sleep. I would take him on walks to the local park and also assist the family with daily errands. As a childcare worker I have specialised training and experience in working with children and I know how to adopt a holistic approach to help them build their social skills as well as confidence in their ability to learn. I achieved these skills by supporting children’s play and learning and understanding their interests and developmental needs. Whilst I can be enthusiastic, fun and positive, I also understand that as a child carer I need to be responsible and respectful of both the children and their parents. I am patient and caring and I understand when it is best to provide encouragement and praise. I have experience working with groups of young children both in and outside of the classroom as a teacher-aide specifically teaching skills in literacy and numeracy. During recess breaks I was responsible for the supervision of students. As a teacher-aide I also worked with students with a disability under the direction of teachers within the Special Education Program. My patience and ability to care for young people with physical, intellectual and autistic disabilities has enabled me to not only work in a school context but to also provide occasional care for families with a child with a disability. I am a good driver and I have a clean license that I have held since 2007. I have never smoked. In my spare time I enjoy the theatre, singing, watching movies, scrapbooking and going to museums to learn about culture. I believe the maturity I have gained through both work and travel enable me to bring the wisdom and reliability to the position that you are looking for.
