If your supervisor is screaming at staff every day...

It's not just a culture problem. It's a safety problem.

If people are afraid to speak up, Safety suffers.
If people are afraid to report mistakes, Safety suffers.
If people are afraid to ask questions, Safety suffers.

The best safety systems in the world won't protect a workplace where people are scared to speak.

Psychosocial hazards aren't corporate buzzwords. They're real workplace risks.

And in many workplaces they're causing more harm than forklifts, ladders and machinery.

Good leaders create safe workplaces.

Not just physically. Psychologically too.

Nobody has ever woken up and said:

"Awesome... today I'm going to a webinar about super."

But if the super changes from 1 July are still sitting in your "I'll look at that later" pile, this session is for you.

Deepak Vallabh from First Class Accounts and I will unpack what is changing, what it means for employers and the practical steps businesses can take before 1 July.

It goes beyond Pay Day Super and answers the questions business owners are asking:

โ€ข What do I need to change?
โ€ข What will it cost?
โ€ข What should I be doing now?

"We passed our accreditation audit so we're compliant."

Not necessarily.

We see this regularly with:

โœ” NDIS Providers
โœ” Medical Practices
โœ” Dental Clinics
โœ” Allied Health Businesses
โœ” Veterinary Clinics

Accreditation is important, ๐—›๐—ข๐—ช๐—˜๐—ฉ๐—˜๐—ฅ accreditation and WHS compliance aren't the same thing. Often accreditation has little to do with meeting required safety standards.

I've walked into businesses that had successfully passed accreditation audits and still had significant WHS gaps.

โŒChemicals/medicine not locked up.
โŒOutdated or no procedures.
โŒRisks aren't properly assessed.
โŒNo training records.
โŒNo check ins on staff working alone.
โŒPoor contractor management.

The reality?

Passing an audit doesn't mean you're compliant with safety legislation.

Most employers know that Pay Day Super changes when super is paid.

What many don't realise is that from 1 July, there are also changes to how super is calculated and reported.

Under the new rules, employers will move from Ordinary Time Earnings (OTE) to Qualifying Earnings (QE) when calculating super guarantee obligations.

If you're not sure what it is, what it means for your business, or whether you need to make changes before 1 July, you're not alone.

That's why I've teamed up with Deepak Vallabh from First Class Accounts to run a free online session for employers.

Workplace Safety Confession Time.

I'll go first.

Years ago I saw someone using:

A milk crate as a ladder...

Standing on another milk crate...

Which was sitting on a pallet...

On uneven ground.

When i asked the question, he looked me dead in the eye and said:

"Don't worry mate, I'm holding on."

๐Ÿ˜‚

Your turn.

Bonus points if it involved cable ties, duct tape or a forklift.

โš ๏ธ Paying Above Award Rates?

You could still be underpaying staff.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is employers assuming that paying above the Award means the Award no longer applies.

Not necessarily.

Allowances, leave loading and other entitlements may still be payable unless theyโ€™ve been correctly incorporated into an above Award arrangement.

Two workers lost their lives in a workplace truck incident.

The company was later fined $1.1 million.

Whenever I read stories like this, I find myself asking the same question:

"What did people know before the incident happened?"

Because serious incidents rarely come out of nowhere.

There are usually warning signs.

A shortcut that became normal.

A process that nobody reviewed.

A risk that had been there for years.

Something that everyone saw but nobody challenged.

The reality is that most workplace incidents don't happen because people deliberately choose to be unsafe.

They happen because little things get accepted over time.

And once a risk becomes part of everyday work, people stop seeing it.

The biggest risk in your workplace is often the one everyone has stopped noticing.

If I walked through your workplace tomorrow, what would your team point to and say:

"Yeah, we've always done it that way."

One of the biggest payroll changes in years is coming.

Yet many business owners still aren't sure what Pay Day Super actually means.

In simple terms, employers will need to pay superannuation at the same time employees are paid, rather than weeks or months later as many businesses do today.

For some businesses, that's a simple adjustment.

For others, it could impact payroll processes, cash flow, systems and business operations.

That's why I've teamed up with Deepak Vallabh from First Class Accounts Balgownie to run a practical online session to help employers prepare.

The businesses that start planning now will have more options, fewer headaches and a smoother transition when the changes take effect.

You can't control the 4.75% wage increase.

But you can control:

โœ” How effectively your managers lead
โœ” How clearly expectations are communicated
โœ” How productive your team is
โœ” How efficient your systems and processes are
โœ” How much rework, waste and frustration exists in your business

I've already seen plenty of discussion about whether the increase is fair.

The Fair Work Commission has made its decision.

The better question is:

Are you getting the return you should from the wages you're already paying?

Because the businesses that navigate wage increases best don't usually focus on the increase itself.

They focus on reducing waste, improving productivity and creating more value from the resources they already have.

That's where I'd be looking first.

02/06/2026

The Fair Work Commission has announced a 4.75% increase to modern award wages from 1 July 2026.

For some businesses, that's manageable.

For others, it's another increase on top of rising superannuation, insurance, utilities and operating costs.

Whether you agree with the decision or not, it's happening.

The real question is:

โšกIs your business getting the return it should from the wages you're already paying?

In my experience, the biggest drain on profitability is rarely pay rates alone.

It's unclear accountability, inefficient processes, poor communication, underperformance that isn't addressed, outdated systems and managers spending their days putting out fires.

The businesses that navigate wage increases best aren't usually the ones that cut costs.

They're the ones that improve productivity, leadership, accountability and efficiency.

The wage increase is locked in.

What your business does next isn't.
