We are extremely proud to announce the release of new koala habitat and fine scale vegetation mapping across Wingecarribee LGA. The maps were developed using high-resolution imagery, more than 4,000 flora validation records, four years of koala acoustic monitoring data, and female koala sighting records.

The koala habitat and fine-scale vegetation maps will help inform strategic planning, development assessment, and biodiversity conservation across the Southern Highlands. Special thanks to all the landholders who facilitated access to their properties for the extensive survey work that was undertaken as part of this project. This work was funded and developed in partnership with the NSW Koala Strategy.

The maps can be viewed online by using the link below. The raw data and associated technical reports can be downloaded from the NSW Government’s SEED (Sharing and Enabling Environmental Data in NSW) portal.

🐨💔 ANOTHER KOALA JUST TRYING TO GET FROM A TO B

Another beautiful koala was spotted in St Helens Park this morning, trying to make its way through our suburbs.

This koala isn’t trying to cause trouble — it’s simply trying to get from A to B and find somewhere safe to live. 🌿🐨

Our wildlife corridors are becoming broken and fragmented. As bushland is cleared and natural corridors disappear, koalas are being forced to travel through suburban streets, backyards and across busy roads.

Every time a koala has to leave the safety of the bush, the risks increase — vehicle strikes, dog attacks, getting lost and conflict with people.

And honestly, it’s heartbreaking to see. Our government and Council need to do better. From where we stand, it feels like our wildlife simply isn’t being treated as a priority.

How many more koalas have to be killed or injured before enough is enough?

We need connected wildlife corridors, safe crossings, proper fencing and protection of the habitat that remains.

🐨 Wildlife deserves a safe way from A to B.

We cannot keep destroying their corridors and then expect them to somehow safely navigate our suburbs.

Speak up. Stand up. Protect our wildlife. 🌿🐨💚
