I sometimes wish I could go back to the naïve old Ash from a year ago who was just starting out and say:

“Darl. I know you're getting into this business because you are looking for ease. You’re not up for a challenge right now, and you think this might be simple. You’re wrong. Here’s what you need to know:

▪️A woman in your breathwork class next week is going to laugh at you and say “Ha! You're starting a business to find balance? Good luck with THAT” and you're going to get a bit miffed. Well she's right. You don’t know what you’re in for. Buckle up.

▪️You’re going to end up doing a lot of stuff you have no idea how to do. That mind map you wrote 12 months ago listing the services you could offer? Throw it in the bin. Get ready to learn about automations and launch plans and funnels and anything else that might make you feel like you need to call the mechanic stat.

▪️You will get tested by the Universe…often! You might think that you are ‘all in’ on your biz. But you don’t actually know that for sure. Not until you have a s**t week and want to quit…but you don’t. Not until you f**k up and your ego is bruised and you think “is this even worth it?”… and you decide it is. Not until you get a DM from someone you have admired for years!!! asking if you’re interested in a full-time job… and you realise you want to stick out your own biz. THAT'S when you know you are all in.

▪️Don’t invest in so many resources. There are some programs you buy into that are worth it, yes! But a lot of the other crap you pay to download or access is just good marketing that will make you question yourself. Remember, you’re cleverer than you give yourself credit for. Save that $59 for the “10 Ways to Convert your Leads” PDF and just show up as yourself. (And pop that $59 into your superannuation. Don’t wait 8 months to remember that’s on you now)

▪️Have fun. You quit your last job for a reason. Don’t just go and recreate all that stress in your own business. Make time for play, don’t be afraid to pursue what lights you up even if it means letting others down every so often and make this business what you want it to be in EVERY WAY.

Now go get 'em girl!" 🙏✨

Evolve is ONE! 🎉🎉

I honestly never thought 365 days that I would end up with the business I have today.

A year ago I was unemployed after leaving my full-time job mid pandemic. I was working to recover from a laundry list of medical issues, I was pretty depressed and I was just looking for something to keep me occupied for a few hours a day.

And now… here we are. And while I’m still processing how to navigate the chaos, the pivoting, the wins, the blows and the ego checks that come with running a business, I am so proud of where I am today and where Evolve has landed.

〰️ 365 days of Evolve.
〰️ 365 + lessons learnt.
〰️ 13 businesses supported.
〰️ 3 people now on our team.
〰️ 1 rebrand.
〰️ 27 boxes of tissues cried through (Probably)
〰️ And 365 nights of hopping into bed thinking “holy s**t…I’m doing it.”

It’s been wild.

I’m taking sometime this week to reflect and really celebrate this milestone, but before I carry on with all that goodness, a couple of special notes of thanks.

– Thank you for giving me a gentle nudge to pursue this business idea during my facial that day.
– Thank you for being my very first client and trusting me with your business when you didn’t know me from a bar of soap.
– Thank you for helping me heal parts of myself when I needed it most and walking me home.gleason – Thank you for being the best biz bestie I didn’t know I needed.
+ + my parents – Thank you for being my number one cheerleaders and for encouraging me every step of the way.
– Thank you for being there through all the ups (and the many downs), and for reminding me not to take life so seriously.

Now I’m signing off. After all, I’ve got a business to run and some cheese to eat!

Evolve by name, Evolve by nature.

I don’t think when I picked the name Evolve for my business, I realised just how fitting it would be.

And it’s time to shift again. Evolve is expanding!

I knew earlier this year that my business wouldn’t just be me forever. I got skills (they're multiplyin’ ⚡) and I’m a big yes woman who will have a crack at anything if it means lending support, but I want my clients to not only have access to the best service possible, but also to a range of skilled people who can bring their projects and visions to life.

So with that, let me introduce you to:

Bec Russell 🌱

Bec Russell has joined the Evolve Team to assist with copywriting and web design services. Bec loves the written word, as well as sleek and modern web design. Bec has always had a natural talent for writing and communication, allowing the words to flow freely to express and share a message. Bec's goal is to assist you, the business owner, to connect authentically to your clients through impactful words and design.

Some other fun facts about Bec are that she is also a holistic wellness coach and yoga teacher, she lives on a small property off-grid near the Whitsundays and is a plant-based foodie who loves organic herbal teas, crystals and essential oils, and living the slow life.

I am so thrilled to have Bec on the team.🌿

Taking leaps of faith, and embracing your emotions. 🙏

Today I had the pleasure of sitting down with my beautiful friend Shae over at to talk about what it’s like to trust your intuition and take a leap of faith when you don’t have the assurance of what the outcome will be... and how to embrace your emotions!

Over the course of my life, I have taken many leaps of faith.

7 years ago I set out to walk 800km across Spain with my dad, never having walked that far in my life. (Seriously, prior to that…walking to the mailbox used to have me whinging.) After that, I moved to London on my own for two years with no job or home lined up. I've quit jobs that no longer felt in alignment for me without other prospects lined up! (Most notably my most recent full-time job which I quit mid pandemic, the same week as I got a mortgage.)

Because I just 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 it wasn’t serving me or my health anymore.

I started this business with no idea of where it would go and within 6 months I had cut out a part-time job before being fully booked because I trusted that my business could support me full time, and it has.

I realise I have always had some real sense of knowing what is right and wrong for me. But in order to fully understand it, I had to go deep. Doing that 'spiritual stuff' we all hear about. ✨ It meant getting comfortable with being uncomfortable and learning to fully embrace my emotions.

In this conversation, Shae and I shared how being vulnerable with each other empowered our emotions to come to the surface, and how embracing our emotions has helped us in business with our clients as well.

Consider this: To be emotional is to be human, in its purest form. So why should we shy away from this part of ourselves?

So give yourself that permission to get close to yourself again, to tune into your feelings, and to take that leap - big or small - that you know you want to take.

Say it with me now: "The universe is always conspiring in my favour!"

(Side note: You can head to her page if you want to watch the replay! Shae's other content always hits home for me right when I need it, and I have no doubt it will do the same for you.)

Recently I went on holiday, and man was it needed. The weeks leading up to my break were pure chaos, and after it took a good 3-4 days into the holiday to calm down and sink into the break, I realised I needed to make some changes.

I didn’t leave my previous job to be working such insane hours. I didn’t start my own business to work every weekend or scoff down lunch over my desk or cancel exercise because it wasn’t the priority.

Since coming back I have implemented some simple practices that support me, my health, AND how I show up in my business. And my gosh it’s made the world of difference.

Here are some sustainable self-care practices I have been using in my business lately that might benefit you!

• Ending the workday at a set time every day, so I have time to relax and wind down before starting another workday.

• Shutting off email notifications on my phone and only checking email at set times.

• Taking days off, (FULL days off) where I don’t touch work once. (In all honestly I am still working on this but I am getting better!)

• Scheduling tasks based on how mentally taxing they are and spreading them out so I don't end each day utterly exhausted. I tend to knock over client work that feels tricky or complex first thing in the morning when my brain is firing.

• Eating lunch outside or even just away from the desk and trying not to scroll on my phone while doing so. Give that brain a break!

• Creating triggers to let my brain know work has ended and my personal time has started. As I work from home the boundaries between work and play can easily become grey. I have started having a shower and lighting a diffuser to signal the end of the working day.

• Checking in with myself once a day to note how I am feeling/coping. Treating my own mental health as a separate employee has been so useful.

These tricks are working a treat for me. They are simple and practical and have changed my relationship to work and my performance within weeks.

How do you practice self-care as a business owner?

P.S. 📸. How beautiful is my lunch spot on sunny days?

Feelings a little flat about your business? Here are 6 steps to change your relationship with your work.✨

01 – Accept what is: Rather than resisting the situation that you find yourself in, and creating angst that things are now how you wish them to be, accept it for what it is right now.

02 – Release your guilt and fears: Running a business can be scary, especially when you have to rely purely on yourself to generate income. But getting stuck in a cycle of guilt or fear will do nothing for you. Trust in your abilities and trust that whatever happens, you will find a solution if you really want to.

03 – Let go of control: You cannot be everything to everyone, and that counts in your business as well. If the time comes for you to outsource, release some control. It will make for a much more enjoyable existence and experience in business if you don’t try and manage every single aspect. Your mind and body will thank you for the relief.

04 – Work out what is important to you: Is doing everything yourself important to you? Or do you crave more time with your family? Do you want to grow your business and make more money, or are you happy staying small? Working out where your values lie can be the guide you need to make decisions. Cutting back on weekend work, outsourcing tasks, or hiring a full-time team member are just some ways you might find allow you to honour what is important to you.

05 – Allow yourself to be vulnerable: When you show vulnerability, it allows team members and clients to feel more comfortable being open and honest with their concerns, questions, mistakes and roadblocks, which ultimately allows for stronger team performance. It also can provide you with a sense of freedom, knowing you don’t have to keep up pretences when things are a little tough!

06 – Find out what doesn’t serve or interest you…and let it go. Like anything, businesses and business owners are allowed to pivot. Just because you started off working on one thing, or providing a certain service, doesn’t mean you have to stay in that lane forever. If something is no longer serving you, cut that cord and explore new options. You’re not dead yet!

Snowed under?

Here are 3 ways to cut back on your workload. ✔️✔️✔️

Automate. Signing up for software or tools to automatically complete certain tasks for you behind the scenes without having to log in and manually do everything yourself is SO valuable. Once your system is set up things should tick over nicely without you having to have to give it any real thought. (Admin and finance tasks are perfect for this!)

Streamline. Not all tasks in your business can be automated, but with streamlined processes in place, you will be much quicker at ticking them off your list. Evaluate your processes and find systems that support the efficient use of your time. This could include time blocking, batching work, and scheduling.

Outsource. Hiring someone else to do the work for you can be daunting, as it means trusting another person to do the work as well as you do. It can take a little while to find your groove but in the long run, it will be the best decision for your business.

If you can start by automating and streamlining your business. Even if you pay someone to get this set up for you, taking care of these steps alone will make a huge difference in your business! Once these steps are done, you can turn your attention to outsourcing. Yes, it’s a bigger investment but certainly one you won’t be able to live without for long if your plans to scale have become necessary.

Tell me – which of these have you tried?

Got a head full of chaos and you need some help, but you don’t quite know how to get it out and get it sorted?

Take a deep breath. This is where I come in!

If you have a task or a project that you are looking to bring to life or even improve, it’s a good chance you already know what you want to be done. What you want to outcome to be! But when you’re an overwhelmed business owner, more often than not your valuable ideas and thoughts are stuck rolling around in your brain, fighting for time!

The best way to get things moving forward is with a good old brain dump.

You can throw it all down on paper and send me your scrambles. You can hand over whatever processes and documents you currently have in place. Or you can do it the good old-fashioned way and verbalise your thoughts to me.

One of the things I love doing most for clients is taking their ideas and thoughts and turning them into systemised, structured action steps – and then following my own project plan to make👏 it👏 happen! (Navigating speedbumps included!)

Take it from my client Vanessa, who I completed a project for a few months ago!

“Ash went over and above to distill my rambling into succinct, actionable tasks that needed to be worked through. If there was a challenge, Ash went over and above to speak to the relevant customer service tech teams and sort out the bumps. Would definitely recommend her!”
