Got an old fridge, rusty bike, or washing machine taking up space in the shed? Now's the perfect time to clear it out! 🙌

Huon Valley Council is offering FREE scrap metal drop-off at Southbridge (Huonville) and Cygnet Waste Transfer Stations this June!

📅 Saturday 13 June – Sunday 21 June

✅ What you can drop off:
- Whitegoods (fridges, washing machines etc.)
- Tools, bikes & other scrap metal
- Car bodies
Please note: Fridges and air conditioners will incur a $10 degassing fee.

👥 Available to Huon Valley residents and local businesses
(Not available for commercial collection service operators)

It's a great chance to clear the clutter, reduce landfill, and keep our beautiful region clean! 🌿

🚛 Oops! One of our rubbish trucks had a bit of a bingle this morning! The good news is everyone is okay (thanks to Tasmania Police, Tasmania SES and Tasmania Fire Service for your assistance). 🙌

If you're in Cygnet west of the Channel Highway, your general waste will now be collected Saturday morning instead of today. Sorry for the inconvenience!

The recycling truck is still out doing its thing as normal today ♻️ - so make sure those bins are out!

🚨 FREE Hazardous Waste Drop-Off – Saturday 23 May! 🚨

Got old pesticides, cleaning chemicals or other hazardous products cluttering up your shed or garage? Don't let them sit there any longer – dispose of them safely and for FREE!

Huon Valley Council, in partnership with TasWaste South, is hosting two free Household Hazardous Waste drop-off events this month at two convenient locations:

📍 Huonville – Southbridge Waste Transfer Station, 2899 Huon Highway
🕙 10:00am – 3:30pm

📍 Dover – Carpark opposite Dover RSL
🕙 11:00am – 2:00pm

What can you drop off?
✅ Old pesticides, herbicides & fungicides
✅ Cleaning solvents & degreasers
✅ Adhesives, resins & sealers
✅ Any household chemical labelled "hazardous"

It's a simple, easy way to clear out unwanted hazardous items while doing the right thing for our community and environment. 💚

📢 Update on Cygnet Waste Transfer Station Wednesday hours! 📢

Following our trial of extended Wednesday hours at Cygnet Waste Transfer Station, we're pleased to share some positive results! 🎉

The earlier 11:00am opening has made a real difference – we've seen a more manageable rate of transactions per hour, allowing our staff to operate the site more safely and provide a more attentive experience for customers.

Based on these encouraging results, Council will be continuing these Wednesday hours for the remainder of 2026:

🕐 11:00am - 4:00pm

By keeping these hours in place through the year, we'll also be able to see how the quieter winter months impact the site – helping us make the best long-term decision for our community.

📢 Extended hours coming to Cygnet Waste Transfer Station! 📢

Great news! Starting tomorrow, Wednesday 28th January, Cygnet Waste Transfer Station will be opening an hour earlier at 11:00am on Wednesdays.

We're trialling these extended hours through to Wednesday 29th April to better serve our community. Your feedback during this trial period is valuable – at the end of this time, we'll decide whether to make these new hours permanent.

New Opening Hours- As a trial until the end of April, we will be opening one hour earlier on Wednesdays at 11:00 am. We understand that Wednesdays are a bit hectic for customers and staff and want to give everyone more time to dispose of their waste and do some shopping at the reuse shop. At the end of the trial we will make a decision about whether to continue with the new operating hours.
