πŸš› Oops! One of our rubbish trucks had a bit of a bingle this morning! The good news is everyone is okay (thanks to Tasmania Police, Tasmania SES and Tasmania Fire Service for your assistance). πŸ™Œ

If you're in Cygnet west of the Channel Highway, your general waste will now be collected Saturday morning instead of today. Sorry for the inconvenience!

The recycling truck is still out doing its thing as normal today ♻️ - so make sure those bins are out!

Thanks for your patience! 😊

πŸ“’ Update on Cygnet Waste Transfer Station Wednesday hours! πŸ“’

Following our trial of extended Wednesday hours at Cygnet Waste Transfer Station, we're pleased to share some positive results! πŸŽ‰

The earlier 11:00am opening has made a real difference – we've seen a more manageable rate of transactions per hour, allowing our staff to operate the site more safely and provide a more attentive experience for customers.

Based on these encouraging results, Council will be continuing these Wednesday hours for the remainder of 2026:

πŸ• 11:00am - 4:00pm

By keeping these hours in place through the year, we'll also be able to see how the quieter winter months impact the site – helping us make the best long-term decision for our community.

Thank you to everyone who visited during the trial period – your support helps us make informed decisions about how we best serve our community! πŸ’š

New Opening Hours- As a trial until the end of April, we will be opening one hour earlier on Wednesdays at 11:00 am. We understand that Wednesdays are a bit hectic for customers and staff and want to give everyone more time to dispose of their waste and do some shopping at the reuse shop. At the end of the trial we will make a decision about whether to continue with the new operating hours.

Please help us complete our bin collections on time πŸš›

Bins placed too close together or near obstacles are slowing down our collection service, which means some streets may be missed.

βœ… Easy guide to bin placement:
β€’ Put bins out by 6am on collection day
β€’ Leave 1 metre of free space between bins
β€’ Wheels and handle to face your property
β€’ Place at kerb edge

❌ Please avoid:
β€’ Placing behind cars
β€’ Under tree branches
β€’ Next to poles or letterboxes
β€’ Overfilling your bin

πŸ’‘ Tip: When bins are placed correctly, we can collect them faster and service everyone on time!

⚠️ How to safely dispose of contaminated coloured sand products ⚠️

If you think you may have contaminated kinetic sand products in your home, please do not place these products in your household bin. Improper disposal of asbestos-contaminated materials can increase the risk of exposure to waste collection drivers and landfill operators.

Huon Valley Council waste transfer stations cannot accept asbestos. However, Southern Waste Solutions (SWS) will waive all disposal fees for any kinetic sand products suspected of containing asbestos, following the nation-wide recall of certain imported kinetic sand products.

If the product is already open, you should wear disposable gloves and a mask and either seal kinetic sand in its original tub or double bag it in heavy-duty plastic and seal it with tape before dropping it off 🧀😷

Safe Disposal Location:
πŸ“ Lutana Resource Recovery Centre
129 Derwent Park Road, Lutana
Free disposal available.

If you have questions about safe handling or disposal, please contact:
