📣 There are two important changes to Super from 1 July 2022 that will impact on all employers and employees:

Employers: Changes to super guarantee start from 1 July and include:
✔️ the super guarantee rate increasing from 10% to 10.5%, and
✔️ the removal of the $450 eligibility threshold. This means employees may be eligible for super, regardless of how much they earn.

Welcome to the new financial year! 🥳

Tax time is here – but not so fast! ✋

If you wait until late July before lodging, most of your info will be pre-filled for you! This includes your employment income, bank interest, private health insurance, dividends, and most government payments you may have received.

All you’ll need to do is check your info, add anything that’s missing, include any deductions – and you’re done! 🙌🥳

Tip: Avoid needing to make changes later by making sure all your income statements are marked as ‘tax ready’ before your lodge ✔️

Update on Announcements (because everyone keeps asking can they now claim 120% on tech expenses and training!)

Advice from the ATO: “The Australian Government is now in caretaker mode. Announced measures that are not yet law will be subject to consideration by the incoming government. In these circumstances, you need to self-assess based on the current law. If you choose to anticipate new law in line with the announcement and it is not enacted, you may need to seek an amendment.”

Translation - Basically this means nothing is certain until after the election. Then the elected government will decide whether to proceed with passing the legislation required to make the budget announcements law… or not! 🤷🏻‍♀️

CHRISTMAS SHUTDOWN

Hi everyone 👋🏼 Please note that I am planning to take some time “off” work over the Christmas holidays. Specifically the school holidays: 17 December - 31 January.

As a Sole Practitioner, it is very hard for me to take time away from the business. This is the first time in over 4 years that I am having a formal shutdown period (after my failed attempt to take Maternity leave in July lol) I hope everyone understands x

PSA: Tomorrow is December! This year has absolutely flown by.. but with only 31 days to go until 2022, I have three "new-years" resolutions for everyone:

1. Check your Superannuation. This is SO important!
Log onto myGov and consolidate all your Super Funds into one. Check the performance of your Super Fund using the ATO's YourSuper tool. Remember to check the fees/charges as well as the investment returns. Don't be afraid to change Funds. Have a play with the online Super calculators and consider whether extra contributions (even very small ones!) would be beneficial for your situation. Retirement might seem like a long time away but you want to make sure the magic of compound interest has enough time to work for you.

2. Check your Insurances.
Also very important (especially if you have dependants!)
Find a good insurance broker that you trust and make sure your Life, TPD and Income Protection insurances are adequate. Don't forget you can claim IP insurance as a tax deduction too!

3. Make sure you have a Will.
This can seem like a scary/depressing thing to do (and hopefully it isn't something your family will need to rely on for a very long time) but do your loved ones a favour and make sure you have a relevant, current Will in place.
