A great Territory story.
An Alice Girl – Tanya Heaslip’s extraordinary story of growing up on an Outback Cattle Station just North of Alice Springs in the 1960/70s.
Anja, our Graphic Designer: “When Tanya first came in our office and told us she is writing a book, her true story of an outback girl who finds adventure - and love - on the other side of the world, in Prague, I was excited to read it one day. Coming from Germany I have some friends living in Prague and have been over there a few times myself.”
Of course Anja bought Tanya’s wonderful first book “Alice to Prague” straight on the book launch last year!
Last week Tanya’s second book arrived in the book stores: “An Alice Girl” and Colemans Printing Alice Springs was incredibly thankful that we got one of the first books with a beautiful little note in it. Thank you Tanya Heaslip - Author, you are always more than welcome and we are already looking forward to your third book ;)
But for now, we will start reading about Tanya’s childhood, what it means to grow up in the Australian Outback and all the stories she can tell about this! “It’s hard to imagine for us Europeans how it is growing up so remote on the back of a horse. It is fascinating for me to escape into Tanya’s world while reading “An Alice Girl”, she has an amazing way to paint a picture with her words. I will definitely send a copy of the books back to my family in Germany, they will love it!” Anja said.
Tanya and her siblings led a childhood unimaginable to many Australians. Their father was determined to teach them how to survive in this severe and isolated environment and his lessons were often harsh. Whether working the mobs of cattle with the stockmen, playing cattle-duffing on horseback or singing and doing lessons at their School of the Air desks, the children were always aware of the demands of the land. But despite all that, Tanya tells of this precious time with raw honesty, humour, love and kindness. This is the true story of a true Alice girl!
