A delegation of traditional owners has taken their fight for buffel grass to be formally recognised as a nationally significant w**d to Canberra in a last-ditch effort to influence the federal government's decision.

They, along with environmental groups, are at odds with the cattle industry over the national w**d status nomination currently being considered by the government.
