It’s always a pleasure to help young people see the many different pathways available to build rewarding careers, gain confidence and develop real-world skills while still at school.

Thanks to Apprenticeships Northern Territory for the opportunity for us to be involved. 👌

Another great school engagement in the books! 🙌

Gemma, our Operations Manager, recently connected with students from the Northern Territory School of Distance Education campus through a TEAMS online presentation.

Joining as a guest speaker was the amazing Tanja Hermansen from Dovaston Training. She provided knowledge about what they offer and how the RTO assists students while conducting a traineeship.

💥 At Apprenticeships NT, we visit schools right across the NT to connect with young people and showcase the opportunities available through apprenticeships and traineeships.💥

University isn’t for everyone… but a VET pathway gives students the opportunity to earn while they learn, gain real-world experience, and work toward almost guaranteed full-time employment at the end.

Our Careers Team can support your school with:
✨ Tailored and engaging presentations — in person or online
✨ Panel Q&A sessions with apprentices, employers and RTOs
✨ Round table discussions
✨ School expos
✨ Teacher and VET pathways information sessions
✨ Connecting students with local industry and employers
✨ One-on-one student support and guidance

We love collaborating with schools to create sessions that suit each cohort, and yes, we always come bearing promo gear for students!

What a beautiful, inspirational journey and we are so happy we got to be a part of it! Congrats again, Shona! 💛 Can’t wait to see what you do next!

Shona’s journey is one of strength, courage and new beginnings.

Growing up in Katherine with five children depending on her, life had never been simple. When Shona lost her mum in 2023, everything changed. Grief made her pause, reflect, and eventually make one of the bravest decisions of her life. She needed a fresh start.

With the support of her partner, Shona moved to Nhulunbuy and began rebuilding from the ground up. She started working with ARRCS at Yutjuwala Djiwarr Flexible Aged Care as a cleaner, taking pride in her work while quietly feeling drawn to something more. She loved helping people, supporting others, and being part of their growth, especially through Leisure and Lifestyle.

It was Rosie, the Service Manager, who first mentioned the First Nations Traineeship. That conversation sparked something in Shona, and in May 2025 she took a leap of faith and enrolled. With the strong, ongoing support of our First Nations Careers Team, and the guidance and direction provided by Dovaston Training & Assessment Centre, Shona began working toward a future she had always imagined for herself.

Balancing work, study and five kids was not easy, but Shona kept showing up. She pushed through the tough days with determination and heart, holding onto the belief that she was building something better for her family and herself.

In May 2026, Shona graduated with her first ever qualification. A milestone earned through early mornings, late nights and resilience she never let fade.

Today, Shona stands confident, qualified and ready for the next chapter. We are incredibly proud of her journey, and grateful to our First Nations Careers Team and our partners at Dovaston Training and Assessment Centre for walking alongside her every step of the way.

On Apprentice Mentor, Peter Ilic’s recent trip to Tennant Creek, he caught up with Shakira Munckton for her six-month check-in.

Shakira is currently completing her Certificate IV in Community Services with CatholicCare NT through RTO Dovaston Training & Assessment Centre. She is crushing her studies, having already completed over half the qualification – WOW, what an achievement! 👏🏽

Her daily tasks include taking participants to and from appointments around Tennant Creek and supporting them in all walks of life. Supervisor, Marcella Rankine, is extremely happy with Shakira’s progress and excited to see where her qualification takes her.

After completing her Certificate IV, Shakira’s goal is to continue on and complete her Diploma in Community Services. We look forward to hearing more of your achievements, Shakira! 🥳
