Final diagnosis once I actually looked into it was a snapped input shaft. Was still able to lock in and drive the front diff home but had no drive to rear diff. SP40 diffs and a tuned C15 are a bad mix but this is the first input in 3 million kilometres. It broke a rear diff years ago and a front a couple ago but they were worn out.
